Hi All,

I used to run a Vauxhall VXR8 (leased not owned). I now live in Dubai and I have been looking at all kinds of cars unavailable in the UK but I keep coming back to the VXR8 (or Chevy CR8 as it's known here). There is one available within my price range but it has done in my opinion very high mileage of 185 000. This is highway miles as the current owner lives way out and has a 300km/190Miles a day round trip and the car is local specs which means it has a larger radiator and more robust filters.

It's a one owner car, FDSH and the reasons for selling all check out so I am comfortable with it but I can't afford to have lots of major things go wrong, so the question is does anyone have experience of one of these with high mileage or of any previous HSV cars? Are there any things to look out for?

Thanks in advance.

Paddy

There was a Monaro for sale a couple of years ago with well over 200k miles on it.

I reckon as long as it has been well maintained and the price reflects the mileage then why not?

Dry climate means the usual issues with rot etc won't be an issue. As above, as long as it's been sensibly serviced and fluids regularly done, not driven too hard, that mileage shouldn't be too much of a worry. Only thing will be rubbers, pipes etc perishing in the heat but no different to other cars. Engine should be solid as motorway munching is generally not stressful on engines.

Thanks Guys for your responses.

This was my view and I have heard back from someone else who is on 200k plus on his Holden so I am hopeful, I really can't afford to have it need a new gearbox or something major in the first few months but it seems like a good one and I will look at it carefully this week.

Is it 185k miles or kilometres?

If miles, I think you're right to be concerned about the gearbox.

I think any car with that mileage on needs to looked over carefully.

That Monaro with over 200k on it is still running afaik, I think the guy's name is 99t - he is a member on here.

I think suspension components will potentially need replacing at this mileage.

Thanks again. It is 290 000 km so 180 000 miles, it's a decent road so I don't think it will be that strenuous on the car and it's an auto but I would be happier paying a more for a 100 000 miler as they are known entities, I am worried that it will be one thing after another.

My Monaro is on 143,000 miles and the only things that need replacing are what you would expect on any other car, like bushes and other wear and tear items. As long as it has a good history of being looked after it should be fine.
