Think outside of the box with the car, forget your typical Corsa's and 107's and go for something a bit left field like a miserable povo spec Saab, Volvo or even a Lexus! Cars that have sold in low numbers are the best as stats are low for them.

Adding my step-father as a named driver made a huge difference in my case.

I'm 24, living in Cardiff, S. Wales so the postcode is the highest risk one (F).
Full UK since 2010
Only 1 year NCB
1 claim made and 1 SP30
2013 Fiesta ST

Cheapest quote - £1800

Added my step-dad, £1200.
Your quote is cheap because the Fiesta is relatively new. I got a quote for a 15 plate one and it was half of what i'm paying now for the Clio!

hey thanks for all your help guys...

I rang admiral, at first they couldnt find me it was like I didnt exist then they asked for licence number and they found me, suddenly my quote dropped like a brick.

07 corsa VXR - 500 excess windscreen, break down all that £1114 quid but they wanted it up front witch isnt a problem

So now it seems that its because the comparison sites couldnt find me so i wasnt getting the best quotes...

Paying instalments is generally way more expensive anyway. If you can't afford the lump get a 0% credit card and pay it off that way!

Insurance baffles me!

I paid £530 for a Fiat Grande Punto T-Jet, worth £2,500 on a good day to a 2014 RenaultSport Megane RS265 worth about 17k on a BAD day, and paid £35 to swap.

When you bear in mind that I was 21, with 3 years NCB and no points I actually asked him "Are you sure?" and even he was shocked. That wasn't with the likes of Elephant either, that was Aviva.

Confusing.

Add any bugger you can on to your policy who might bring it down a bit. I've saved over £300 in the past by adding my dad and sister as named drivers!

As others have said, classics are a good way to go although only if your good with the spanners.

Be 'creative' with your job title
+1

"20 yo Darling daughter" moved from a 1.2l Corsa to a Mazda 323 1.5l last year - (Both cars were circa 2001 and sheds but did the job), despite moving from a 3 door to a 5 door with a bigger engine the insurance dropped by over £600pa (which was more than the cost of the car to buy) so look for something less "new driver-ish..."

Unfortunately you've picked cars that are popular with youngsters and are crashed a lot so they attract very high insurance premiums.

When my son started to learn last year I went through all the comparison sites with different car types and after many hours found that the only car I could cheaply insure for him was a Skoda Fabia 1.2. Its basically a VW polo with a skoda body on. Its actually not a bad car I've driven it a bit and it does the job.

For any other car the quotes were £1500+ for a corsa it was nearer £3000. The skoda cost me £200 for him as a learner , rising to £500 once he passed his test. This was with Adrian Flux, I tried loads of other insurers but they were the cheapest.

It's been said before.

Car value has little to do with insurance cost. It's more about the value, risk and probability of the damage that you might cause with the vehicle.
