bl00dy cyclists out looking for trouble! what an ar$e! surely he was breaking the speed limit by overtaking anyway. It takes a tragedy before idiots like this learn their lesson. Bet he had on the wrap around shades and full lycra with 'Team Sky' written all over as well.

Rider thinks he's at the back of the peleton trying to jump the team cars. Didn't really give himself any options if things changed. He made a mistake really.
He should take it to a track.

'Nice relaxing ride'? It looked like he was going for it to me.

Probably Uphillgardener's shouty cousin. Same confrontational modus operandi and self-righteous attitude.
This, actually. (Uphillfreewheeler actually).

Speaking as a cyclist.
I think you should (carefully) Google "up hill gardener"
Googling uphill gardeners...That's what it's called these days, is it?

Overtake was never viable from the outset, had he made it past the Mercedes he would have been quickly on the brakes to avoid rear ending the car ahead this causing the Mercedes driver to brake which is poor behaviour. Hypothetically, in that scenario, Had the Mercedes rear ended him it would have been the cyclists fault, I wonder if that video would have been made public.... The cyclist should have just waited for a bigger gap and pedalled harder to reduce his time facing on coming traffic.

Poor behaviour from the Mercedes driver too, possibly just not paying attention, though I don't think he closed the gap quite as much as the cyclist protests.

Funny how those with cameras always seem to generate this sort of material though, I don't cycle with one and experience a noteworthy "event" like this just one or twice a year but then I know in just flash and bone, I think a lot of cyclists forget this.

I think the overtake was misjudged but the car should've given way to the overtaking vehicle rather than making his life that little bit harder.

I think it's similar to uphill gardening.

I am a cyclist and a car driver , I would never have gone for that overtake far to risky for me but then I would have not done it in a car or on a motor bike either , the road looks to narrow .

Mercy closed gap and was also too close to car in front as well. Send the video to the police. They will be interested.

As someone who is both a motorist and a cyclist (3 cars, 6 bikes at last count), lets not turn this into a "bloody cyclist" rant.. There are plenty of s in both camps, fortunately they outnumbered by rational people happy to share the road.

I'm all for cams (helmet and dashboard) being used to support insurance claims etc but the amount of people posting videos of non events is getting bit out of hand; it's as if they are looking for issues that just aren't there.

The Merc driver was being a tt by speeding up: there was just no need for it. The cyclist wasn't going to slow him down, cause him to brake etc. Instead the driver created a 'dangerous' situation: looks like a case of small penis syndrome to me..

tbh, the cyclist needs to MTFU and grow bigger legs or wait for a bigger gap to overtake.

Why would you attempt such a manoeuvre on a bike? There was a car coming the other way. The Merc driver did nothing wrong, is he supposed to stop to compensate for your stupidity and let you in?

And the 20mph applies to you too, you .

Eh? He didn't need to stop to let the cyclist in - just not close the gap (which gave the Merc driver no advantage and was only done to prove some kind of a point).

The cyclist didn't cover himself in glory, but those saying things like the quote above need to have a word with themselves (not that they will of course). The nasty piece of work in the Merc went out of his way to deliberately put the cyclist in harms way. Whether the cyclist is right or wrong, there is no excuse for that. People on this thread seem to be forgetting that - it was poor road 'manners' from the cyclist, but unlike the Merc, he wasn't purposefully going out of his way to put someone else in harms way.

Just looks like a pissing contest to me.

I suspect the Merc driver was ignorant.

You should never put yourself in a position where you are relying on another driver spotting you and doing the right thing, especially as a more vulnerable road user like that cyclist.

You should expect to meet idiots and the cyclist here created a situation where he was entirely dependent on the Merc driver 1) noticing him and 2) making room by slowing down and allowing the gap to persist. Don't rely on someone else not being an idiot!
