Hi guys,

Just been to look at an mx-5 today, drove beautifully with fresh M.O.T etc... only problem is that there seems to be some rusting around the sills and wheel arches. I know this is common and clearly it can't have been fixed before, but how serious is it? I'm only really looking to have the car for the rest of this year.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Does it really matter though if you're only keeping the car for the year?

That's my thinking, but would just rather it lasted as long as possible/doesn't fall apart whilst I'm driving it is all!

I can't see bugger all with that pic.

However on a Mk2 the worst place is the front chassis above the front anti roll bar - you have to feel around the area - google and check as it's a £100-400 problem

They all do that sir banghead

Those areas in the picture look very familiar, mine is going in the same place frown .

If it has just passed a test and it's not really visible in these pics then a sand down, treat and repaint should do the trick. My friend had a mk1 that you could see the rot from 3m away!

Old rusty cars will disintegrate in a heavy impact. So, do you feel lucky, punk?
