Mini Cooper R56 (non S) issues?

Interested in getting a cooper for my wife. (R53 S does too few mpg and don't like the engine problems with the early R56 S. Can't afford a later R56 S.) Are there any issues with the non S cooper engine?

N12 engined Cooper models do not seem to have suffered from any major issues unlike the N14 S and jcw version
