Well, as the title says. My 90 year old mother in law had her number plates stolen today. You can imagine at that age, she's worried and confused. She's obviously reported it to the police, who have told her to expect all sorts of parking fines etc. to turn up.
Has anyone else experienced this and have you any stories or advice please?

Had mine stolen last year; none of the expected NIPs for speeding/parking tickets arrived. Police said that they were more likely stolen as a means for leaving filling stations without payment.

A lot of people take them off before a hoon. Maybe she did this??

Oh, how about hard crime?

Has there been a bank job near you?? Nobody would suspect a 90 year old getaway driver... jester

You could try that thread:

It could result in your M-i-L stopped a lot, so perhaps suggest to police that if it's a car of her make and model driven by an elderly woman they don't stop her repeatedly?

The police asked me to give a password, so if stopped they could quickly discount me from their 'inquiries'.

Lol, you say that, but last week a 73 year old man was arrested here in Sevenoaks for planting a fake bomb in Santander in an attempted robbery. The entire high street was shut down while the army blew the package up! Maybe my m.i.l was the get away?

Thank you for the reply. I wasn't aware of that way of doing it.

You're welcome smile it was something I would never have thought of and, to be honest, a tad miffed that I wasn't stopped by them. biggrin

Likewise, Police told me they used my plates to fill up without paying at the petrol station down the road. No fines, tickets, NIP or anything else came of it, I assume they dumped the plates again straight after.
