I don't know. Everyone wants an SUV/crossover don't they? I'm not sure if they're cool but I certainly like them. Certainly some Audi RS models only being available as an Avant probably helped the image of estates but that doesn't make all estates cool.

When the second child came along the C43 had to go. Luckily they made C43 Estates.

Personally I prefer the profile of a saloon. Some cars definetly suit the estate body though (RS4 *drool*)

The first estate car I remember - indeed the first car - was pretty cool to me. Ours was fed.

I like the multi functionality... I take my rents to the airport quite regularly, put all my mates gear in the back and bikes etc... Do it!

And people look at you funny when you burn it off at the lights... Or when drifting around roundabouts!
LOL
Love it. I plan to get a 330d auto estate. Your reasons are why I want an estate

In on my 4th wagon.
Although the 156 was so small I'm unconvinced it counted.

They've got increasingly rapid as well.

They are cool because you can give into practicality, but still drive a fast/decent handling car.

I want one, but the missus like a 4x4 - boo!

I therefore drive the kids about in a 1980s Mercedes SL on the weekend.

I love estates, but I've only had the one, a mk3 Mondeo. That said, I've usually bought at the bottom end of the market where estates tend to command a fair premium for a half-decent one. Given the choice of two identical cars though, a hatch/saloon and estate I'd always choose the estate. smile

This problem has been solved for quite some time now thanks to the previously mentioned Volvo and Audi, and of course my own personal rather biased suggestion,

tadaaaaaaa:

I absolutely love it and can't think of many good reasons to ever go back to a saloon.

slightly better stock photo:

I love mine, it does everything I need and more, out of 20+ years of driving it's the only car I've kept longer than a year. Coming up for 3 years soon, and struggling to find anything better to replace it with.

It loves motorway runs smile

Well, surely large estates are "cooler" than the majority of dull MPVs. They will never be ice cool, but they are - the bigger ones- a bit posh, which MPVs just can't do, and if supply and demand means anything, they always command a premium over the equivalent saloon. "Cool " is a youngsters term, but can it compete with "shooting brake"? To illustrate, mid range estate 15% more than its saloon sister, Golf Plus MPV wannabe, 10% less at - say - 2 years down the line.
