BMW E46 325ti Compacts are now in shed territory.

See past the looks (not that bad IMO) and you've got near 200hp 6 cylinder RWD hot hatch.

I had a Clio V6 a few years ago, sold for around £8K and was a very tidy low mileage example. I've recently checked prices and they are shooting up in price! Most MK1s are around £18K upwards now!!! What's going on?
Cheap and easy credit is what's going on... wait until the free money taps eventually get turned off, then watch the bubble burst and see what happens to these "values".

Elises and the like have never really dropped back but agree they arent too expensive for what you get.

Z4M, I think the boat is already leaving the harbour on that one, Z3's have risen, where did the ropey 1.9s for £1500 go ?

R129 SL, yep, still some value to be had though decent spec ones are pricey

S2000, where did the 4 grand ones go ? when I was looking they were numerous, I would say they arent going to go up a huge amount more just yet, knock on effect for stuff like the Integra, Bread Van EP3's are cheap right now and could be due a renaissance as current hatches get bigger, heavier and faster than a supercar, old school NA, simplicity and nostalgia could see these climbing I reckon

Chimaeras, seem to hover in the same area to me, then there are some really nice ones and overpriced dealer stuff, 12 grand still gets you in the door though, which seems good value as long as it isnt needing a chassis, engine rebuild etc, very special car, ditto Cerbs, still seem a whole heap of awesome for around 20 grand, is a "special" 911 really worth ten or twenty times more, no, how could it be really ?

MR2 Mk2, still a cheap snotter in the eyes of most, slight whiff of Ferrari and replica and a hint of Barry but maturing nicely, cant see a massive swing in price but good ones will hold steady, worth having and still makes a good budget choice, ditto the Mk3, would say its still available to mortals and offers a good package.

Mustangs, hmm, not sure where they are going, they bombed spectacularly a few years back, then went back up and held steady for a good while, small pool of cars, can be confusing to look at with so many variations and modifications, but good value, will be interesting to see what the new one does to older ones, think they are far enough apart price wise now to not be affected apart from overpriced older stuff with superchargers and bodykits.

Clio V6, too expensive now I think for what it is, wont drop but isnt cheap and cant see it climbing much higher.

Its isnt just credit, its crap interest rates, if you have 20 grand, put it in an ISA and get it back but worth less a few years later or take a punt on an interesting motor ?

I would think that Chimearas and early XKRs give very good value. A V8 supercharged Rangie Sport is going to be a bit of fun to slap around as a left field option and maybe XJRs?

Mercedes SL r129 - not a thrilling car but a stonking car for the money. A 300 will start off around £2500 and a V8 around £4000. These were 73k when new and were a supercar of the time.
It won't be too long before they start to appreciate in value.
People have been saying that for 10 years. Would love to know the % left out of the original number sold - way higher than most cars I would imagine.

I often put forward the Barchetta and get mostly ignored...irked

Agreed. I think the sheer number of cars out there will limit any great increase in price for some time- blame that on the fantastic build and engineering meaning not many disappear to the scrapyard in the sky!

The bonus of this is you can still get to experience ( in my case I had a 1995 SL500) that superb V8 and build quality and great GT ability for little money (on classic policy as well).

I still think a Cerbera is a staggering amount of raw performance and desirability for the money.

There's a nice well sorted early one in the classifieds for £13,500, for a car that could take on most 90s and 00s supercars and soundly hand them their arse whilst never failing to put a grin on its owner's face when driving.

Great topic.

Another vote for Z4M coupes.

In general, anything with the following recipe will do ok: good looks, six cylinders or more of NA power, manual gearbox. They won't make them like this for too much longer.

MK1 MR2s are still pretty reasonable, recently saw a mint very low miler advertised under £7k.

On the classic side, good TR7s, MGBs and Scimitars are all still very affordable.

AS an owner I would agree with you. A coupe for more money will be a lesser car. And the tis have a few bespoke tweaks.

I still limp because of that fking car, combined with a tit of a salesman on their stand at a London Motor show. The whole hall seemed to come to a standstill when he slammed the driver's door shut with my knee fulcrumed between it and the steering wheel thus eliciting the loudest cry of '' heard in London since that bloke set fire to the bakery. A worse motoring injury than burning my ballbag on a mini's radiator while peeing into it to get enough coolant to be able to drive home.

Even today, just hearing 'cappuccino' instills me with an overwhelming desire to punch a young salesman in the face. Although, on reflection that could just be a Starbucks thing.

I go on about this too much but with r32 golf sitting at around £8k I chose an A3 3.2 basically the same, but 4K or under!
I might go for an Elise, they seem to sit around 10-15k and never go up or down,
I really like almost all Tvrs and they all seem to sit at the same price for the last 5 years between 10-25k

My dream car and has been for about 20 years since I went in my mates dads964 has gone mental, I'll probably never get one for no real reason they can't be that good!!??
