Pretty car. The 2.5 sounds far better than it goes but if you're not in a hurry and don't mind keep-fit gear changes then an interesting choice IMO

Owned by a total dork. Very good sign.

Chaps who crack eggs into radiators and fill sills with newspaper NEVER have 40 clear plastic wallets to hand.

Its due every 72,000. So either overdue or done recently. Given the history, I'd say its probably ok.

The next barge 1-5 meeting should be more accessible for southerners - the British Motor museum at Gaydon.

The first meet saw the Mercedes r129 dominate, the second special V12 jaguar XJSs. What will we see on the third meet!?

I have added some dates in September on this sign up page (the one after can be a post Christmas pre new year one like last year!): https://doodle.com/poll/tt3kd5ky44zdgwgr

Unless there are any major objections I'll get an indication on this poll then decide the date.

Good man 0a. I've signed up for any of those 3, and the geography should suit a wide cross-section.

Lexus LS430 are getting stupidly cheap now. Seems daft not to get one for a daily motorway slugger. Will likely save thousands in not requiring repairs compared to German equivalents.

I asked the seller on Ebay - Cambelt has been done recently.

That looks rather good. The seller claims no rust as well...

I like that a lot. Can't help but think the seats aren't as-is from the factory though, maybe it was cloth to match the doorcard colour? Seems very odd.

I can make 2 of the 3 proposed dates so fingers crossed smile

That SE looks like it's ready to roll as a daily - recent MoT. Engine bay would need a clean-up but if it's rust-free then depreciation-free motoring, Shirley?

Picked up the new old barge yesterday! A '91 W126 300SE. 250 miles slipped away delightfully easily into the lowering sun and with a spectacular performance of Rachmaninoff's something something on Radio 3. Seems to have picked up the name Hodor, already. Giving it a clean today, pictures and more notes later on.

The seats look to me like they are from a w126. I think they have taken the covers from a 126 and put them on the original seat frames from the 116: have a look at the pictures of the backsides of the front seats. The car definitely came from the factory with velours, either 934 date or 937 sienna, the latter would be my guess. It's a shame because lovely rich tan velours would be so much nicer than mis-matched boring beige leather.

I must say, when I saw that car on Ebay yesterday, I thought it a good example of how, in this current price bubble, any old rusty tat which five years ago would have been £500 or destined for the scrapper is now being wheeled out with a straight face at £5,000.

Excellent choice of venue. I have signed up for all 3 dates. Hopefully a W140 dominated meet!

Allegedly a business addition http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-W140-MERCEDES-S320-...

87k miles and £2,495. Do these have soft close?

I do hope to be able to come to Gaydon, I've signed up for the dates which aren't my birthday. Good venue, pretty sure I met CdG up there once before at an MB Club W124 day.

Very pleased to see the pics and hear the Lakeland meet went well, I'd have been tempted despite the distance if it hadn't been my Nephew and now Godson's Christening up in Wetherby. We did some fairly epic bank holiday traffic barging in the S211 anyway though, took over 2 hrs to do 25 miles round the M25!

Congrats to BigBen on the 600!

I think all W140s have soft close. Not sure it is a business edition, didn't they all have the electric tables in the back?
