XJRs must have become significantly faster with each generation, as my older six cylinder XJR was a *bit* slow.

The X350 XJR 0-60 is 5 seconds, the X351 is 4.4 seconds.

That's fine and dandy and rather swift, but it's the mid range change of speed that's better than the previous models.

The newer cars are lighter with more power and more torque.

I have no idea on the numbers. I just go by "bum feel" in the seat. My CLS 500 felt significantly faster yet that wasn't even an AMG or bought to be a performance car. It was a huge barge. I guess the newer XJR will be another leap on again above that.

They are deceptively fast, mine does not feel as fast as it actually is. I have run 13 second 1/4 mile with ease.

Fast is uncouth and undignified. As such, one should not do it in unprepared company.

Such that one and one's barge can do it, is not to say one and one's barge should do it.

Drive slowly. Rub it in.

Baaaaarge.

Pic 1 is a brilliant example of what this thread likes- gravel...
I travelled from Scotland to Goodwood FOS weekend with a mate in his 5.7 wagon. Couldn't believe it averaged 25mpg over the whole weekend!

I like the idea of your model: aluminium chassis, modern old school shape. My only issue is knowing someone who had an engine go which apparently cost him £8k. I don't know the details or whether he was ripped off. But that is a scary bill to me! The older Jags never scared me at all when I had the XJR and V12. There were always so many spare old parts around and plenty of Jag specialists. But newer cars seem so much more complex, fragile and expensive. Not sure if that is rational thinking or just panic.

It is extremely rare for someone needing a new engine on theirs, the chances are about the same as any other car. There is no need to spend 8k when a guaranteed low mile engine can be 2k or so, plenty of spares from breakers.

So basically a well looked after car is no less reliable than a modernish mondeo, etc.

Especially when it's such a robust engine as that. It was used with minimal changes for 10 years and always proved decent.

How much would a new engine for a CLS55 run you?

Be in no doubt, the jag x350 xjr is a seriously quick car, their are much quicker cars out there. But for the price I can't think of much that will get close, certainly not with the refinement of the Jag, I was genuinely suprised by the speed of the thing, admittedly as only a passenger.

I didn't realise the X350 had the same V8 as the older models. So there should be loads of spares around by now then. That makes it a lot safer in my eyes. I would hope the Jags would be more robust than some of the German offerings. If not, hopefully the parts might be cheaper?

Also what is up with a new model name of X358? Seeing as they apparently only changed the bumpers and seats that seems so daft!

Yes, we have one...525i Touring. Petrol and manual. IIRC it's a 2000 with about 100K miles (can check this week as I'm popping over). Glacier Green with green cloth, factory angel eyes. It's an original U.K RHD car only trouble is it's in France and registered there (although a very simple matter to re-register it here).

Was thinking about selling it there as the last couple of times we've tended to pick up hire cars there instead of using our own car and we already have too many cars to bring it back to use here ourselves
