I'd love to turn this into something a bit more focussed.

The Jaguar XJ/S (XJS later in life.)

The classical symbiosis of both suave and louche.

Discuss.

A straight six XJR lump should fit quite easily. That would enable it to progress with more urgency.

I think the supercharged 4.2 V8 might be a laugh, but you'd certainly need to upgrade the brakes. My V12 doesn't slow anything like as well as the XJR does.

I love the silence of my V12, but can certainly see the appeal of a slightly vulgar V8 rumble in an XJS.

Chaps, a much longer commute means that after 5 years of faultless barging I will be selling my MkIV LS400 with DHP in the next few months. Does the DHP still command a meaningful premium? I can't find any similar cars on the market to compare against for pricing purposes.
Posting the details with some pictures wouldn't do any harm smile
No pics to hand but it's green over grey, paintwork and interior is immaculate despite 145k miles. It's been pretty well looked after, with dealer stamps until approx. 100k and then two enthusiast owners including me. I've done cambelt, waterpummp, and annual oil changes. It needs 2 x front tyres though. In my head it's worth £1800, but my head is a strange place to be at the best of times smile

I'm waiting to hear when my new car is likely to arrive, so I will probably hold off for a couple of months before advertising it.

Can you get fast cams for these? A pair of faster cams, flowed and ported head, sharper springs and shocks, slightly bigger wheels and lower profile tyres. That would do it, wouldn't it? Proper old-fashioned tuning, in other words.

Save your money, all you need is brut and full strength filterless ciggies to drive that thing. Proper motor.

Over budget but lots of tech, space and pace
And miles. Lots of miles. Which I'm sure would be fine, but with 171k on it, you would really have to want it at 6.5k.

I would not have expected a big Lexus to need a new gearbox at 164K and nine years.

Looks very smart, if everything works, air con, central locking and hood, even with highish miles not a bad buy!

That's the least of your worries if piss poor details bother you. The fit and finish, and details like exposed screwheads and so on were pretty poor even by 1970s standards. They look great from 20 yards away though. You do have to remember that throughout it's history Jaguar has tirelessly maintained a fine tradition of contempt for it's customers and never trying too hard where you can get away with cutting corners. Lyons himself was a 1st rate penny pincher.

FWIW I was with a major lease company yesterday who have some first rate stats on reliability (rather than meaningless customer satisfaction surveys), and they said Jaguar have improved enormously for breakdowns and quality complaints since TATA took over.

Seems pricey when I was thinking of putting my 74K mile 500SL up for similar money. Maybe I'm living in the past value wise.

Does an S60 count as a barge? I suppose if we've had every single remaining asthmatic 190E and the odd 3 series it's eligible hehe

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=248...

2005 2.4 T5 manual. It looks like it just came out of the factory (my cars always seem to end up looking like they just came out of a swamp) and he seems exactly the sort of owner you want to buy a car from. 310bhp remap to add some extra interest.

Beige-tastic. Looks well and must be quite the sleeper.
