I seem to remember a legend like that in readers cars, bought for around £700 but the auto box playing up and giving suspiciously low MPG. Probably not the same car but does look and sound familiar.

Early 300E, says interior and engine good, so I assume it's rusty. Plate included for £950 though... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C780102

It doesn't mention the interior condition so I'm inclined to believe it'll be pretty tidy inside and out. That plate is really quite attractive too.

I know I'm trying to get rid of a 124, but that is a bargain.

Actually just had a look and it is the same one. Just on the off chance anyone is interested in it, the seller describes some sort of crunching between first and second on the auto box in his thread, so take this in to consideration.

Nice pair of '40is there Jim. I'd happily give a home to both.

... but rather than looking for a big bargey estate, it occurs to me that I could just buy a trailer and a towbar and then maybe get a more average ("normal" as my better half would say) car when the time comes to change (Golf, Civic, boggo family hatchback basically).
If you have room to park a trailer why not just buy another car?
Trailers don't need tax and insurance, mainly. I'd rather just have one slightly silly barge than 2 cars... if I had a second car to either a barge or sensible hatch, it'd be an MX-5 anyway, so still poor for tip runs wink

Chaps, I've never had a w124 and have fancied trying one for some time. Mate of mine is a small time
Trader and has just picked up a 1995 e320 coupe and offered it to me. It's a nice blue colour with mushroom leather, 130k but it has been say for 2 years with no MOT (but the not history looks ok), it was a also a cat c in 2009.... Oh and it has a misfire.... Worth a cheap punt for a few months or avoid ?

Depending on your requirements, my 320 sportline is available having bought the 560 sec a week after I got it home. Has MOT but was bought a rolling resto and needs bodywork all round( OSF pattern wing supplied), exhaust, and maybe aircon. Near the start of thread budget.

Bt of a whiff about that ad. Not only has someone stuck a spurious M badge on the car, which should disqualify it for a start, but this fantasy...
"Low mileage examples are already topping £12k so here is a chance to get in early and grab a bargain"

Just wanted to post this as I think it is stunning.

Unfortunately requires far too much work but hopefully someone restores it.
Good resto project but done properly that W108 280SE 3.5 will end up owing someone £40K. It will bust thread budget even as the wreck it currently is.

Nostalgic.

Seems funny to think nowadays that, for more than likely a good proportion of us, the car browsing fix only came but once a week by leafing through blurred black and white photos the size of your thumb, printed on bog roll that turned your hands black, at around 8am every given Thursday morning.

Corr! I like that and I've always wanted a 140.

The journey down to Dijon in my 124 yesterday makes me want an E32 750i.

I have to say when a seller states the quote you have highlighted regarding the £12k it puts me off.

Why even mention it?

I know they want to make it look like a bargain but............

The sheaf of fuel receipts that you'd be clutching by now will have quickly disabused of such notions! laugh

But...if you insist on something along those lines may I recommend this as (IMHO) a much superior option for very long distance continental travel (and possibly achievable at or near thread budget given that the advert says "Offers invited" and has been for sale for nearly 2 months):

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C762721

Much newer than an E32 (and the last year of E38s) and so perhaps less likely to have suffered all the ravages of time in terms of hidden corrosion; upon brake-lines, fuel-lines etc. A far more refined model (quieter, better body control, handling etc.) and with a better iteration of the V12 engine...this is a 5.4L (and fabulous) those in the E32 will be the older 5.0L which I maintain offers little over the 4.4L M62 for its significantly greater thirst. The performance increase with the 5.4L, however, really is palpable.

Still likes a drink though! drink

Don't know if we've had this one? A8, 79Kmiles, under 2 grand, looking very nice indeed, air conditioning not working, is it an expensive job? I'm guessing it is.
