No idea where we will end up, but I'm picking him up from the airport on Friday morning and delivering him back on Monday morning. Skye and Applecross are on the list as he's not been to the highlands before.

And comically expensive.
[We didn't stay in Applecross, but did overnight at Tigh An Eilean in Shieldaig.]

It will also be tiresome if dheads start driving far too fast in so-called super cars and stuff. While I admire those cars, they're all too big, too fast, too noisy for the public road. 99.9% of the people who own them are tts. And they'll attract policing which will spoil it for the rest of us.

I didn't struggle for places to stay or traffic in May during the glorious weather. A fabulous route that I'll be trying to do every year.
I'm sure the hotels are loving the business but I used to enjoy just turning up at the Applecross Inn and booking a room or worst case calling a few days before. No chance of that these days. Also don't constrain yourself to the NC500 lots of other equally as good roads in the west. It will also be tiresome if dheads start driving far too fast in so-called super cars and stuff. The Bealach na Gaoithe (pass of the winds) between Torridon and Diabaig in my view is better than the Bealach na Bà or Applecross road. But, of course, it is not part of a circuit, Diabaig being a dead end, albeit one with a nice café restaurant and a very scenic harbour. To be honest, I rather prefer the high speed open vista routes, like Achnasheen to Gruinnard Bay or Garve to Ullapool, I used to love covering ground along those roads in my 500 SEC, the car absolutely in its element, the long-travel suspension soaking up the undulations with that "sense of indomitability" that Mel Nichols so accurately identified in "Champagne Country".
The "Crimson Tide" ex-sheikh W140 hits the bay!
Can't quite remember how it was priced during its epic stint on C&C, but pretty sure it dropped below £3K by the end. The (brief) new owner's extravagant hopes:

The reserve is set at £7000 but the car is worth more and I am confident I will achieve more.

Oa: I was impressed by the Coastal Kitchen at Shieldaig this time. We went a few years ago and it was not so hot, but this recent trip we tried it twice and it was good.

I should keep a notebook of all these great factoids ready for next time I'm up there...The Bealach na Gaoithe (pass of the winds) between Torridon and Diabaig in my view is better than the Bealach na Bà or Applecross road. Im also dubious of the Sheikh claim, unless the Dubai office back then were in a grimy part of Battersea.
the sheikh would have an armour plated bullet proof glass high security 500 or 600 model. Heads of state do not travel about in ordinary cars. It may have been registered to him for his staff but i doubt his royal cheeks have ever graced those seats. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
