Don;t worry about it. I will be bringing a mundane four-cylinder small-capacity turbo which according to the finest minds of PH makes a noise like a badly functioning vacuum cleaner and represents a total betrayal of everything its manufacturer stands for.

CL600 now on auction with a reserve of £4k. Claimed to have had some recent work but not all it needs by the sound of it... wonder why it hasn't been MOT'd?

Can't MOT it with non working windscreen wipers (claimed to be only the stalk)http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-MERCEDES-S600-COUPE...

Recent work includes new SBC pump and torque converter replacement i.e. no valeo rad issue.

Love this colour, and I've come to conclude that BBSs are the rim of choice on these. Big miles and spartan ad, but only one "pervious" owner and no apparent scabs in the usual places. Also super-original with the factory stereo and the agricultural steering wheel that most right-minded owners binned pronto.
E31s seem to have been creeping up in price of late - this could be a bargain (currently £1500 with four days left).

i'd change springs too if they look rusty - mine looked like relics from Titanic when removed off my old 93 2.6 and had coils snapped on 3 of the 4, undetectable in day to day driving. ARB bushes are quick and easy to do.
looked pretty good and drove superbly once all refitted with sportline spec Sachs shocks, Suplex sportline spec springs and the thinnest spring pads from uk.mbspecialist.com:

It depends what's most shagged out, to be honest, it's impossible to know without getting underneath and giving everyhing a good poking and levering around. Your dampers are likely to be a bit thin but if you have worn out anti-roll bar bushes at one end or the other, or something affecting wheel alignment, then that would take priority for me.
The steering damper is a good thing to suspect as guilty until proven innocent on an R129, so that may well be true of the 190E too.

Very true. Still, untill I get these bits of paint done on my R129, Jonathan's is going to be a a much better example than mine so no point duplicating on the R129 front. For two pins I would bring my E39 because I love it SO MUCH but, to be frank, despite its mechanical splendiferousness it looks like a total shed at the moment, and might fail to meet bottom thread price threshold.
So unless it's raining acid on the day it will have to be a Big Day Out for the finest Porsche that Audi ever built, so there.
I'm a long way from being a fan of the Bavarian breed, but the E39 is the only one I'd allow in the garage. The 540i and M5 are just stunning. So unless it's raining acid on the day it will have to be a Big Day Out for the finest Porsche that Audi ever built, so there.

Excellent thanks!Strangely the 190 is the car that I have had the most compliments about. People seem to have fond memories of them and like to see one in reasonable condition.
I have also ordered some of these mats as well. In Brown. http://carmatsdirect.co.uk/mercedes-190e-w201-1982...

I'm allowed only one car at the Loser Conference and it has to be the 124.
Shocks on the 190; but you know the drill, tyres, ARB bushes, steering damper, steering idler arm bushes, front rear subframe mounts.
I can't wait to see the legend. Shocks on the 190; but you know the drill, tyres, ARB bushes, steering damper, steering idler arm bushes, front rear subframe mounts.
I just took the 190 out for a 20 miles drive and it does feel fantastically tight to drive. The r129 is now the worst of the three. Unsurprising as I have not started on that yet and the 190 is pretty low mileage.
The history of the 190 is immense. I should probably read it in more detail. At a glance the window regulators seem to have been done many times, and the ARB bushes were done recently. It was sold by the SL shop to the last owner a couple of years ago, so I wonder if they did anything as well. The tyres are relatively new michelins. It was waxoiled and then Dinitroled annually for about a decade straight before then, so hopefully it's good underneath. I've not looked yet (!).

Well I have started by ordering Sachs springs and shocks so we will go from there!
Don't do what I've just done and order new shocks & top mounts, only to discover that the ones on the car are practically brand new. Numpty! Ah well, more stuff to add to the McCracken 'parts Dept'. I've got service parts for cars I no longer own, enough filters for a fleet M103s, parts for the W201 that didn't even make it home to Belfast, enough service parts to last the wife's Jazz a lifetime, etc etc.
Must be another manifestation of the collecting disease that afflicts a lot of us on this thread, and results in so many old cars.
