Loosely related - a trade friend recently took a 65 plate S8 with 4K miles in part ex at £56k.
Owner paid £95k for it...
Did they actually pay £95k though? New discounts are huge on the S8 - easy £17k off list and not hard to get more. Even with a discount though, still a lot to lose on a car frown

Regarding this weekend's Northern Losers Conference...

Mission Control would prefer it if we took the X350 XJR rather than the soft-top TWR XJS. Last weekend's soggy journey South was very noisy indeed.

Hope that's OK

CDG should still be there with his XJS... looking forward to seeing it. Perhaps he will sell it to me one day smile

Looking forward to meeting up. After seeing the 190 last time I had to find one for myself!

I followed through on my musings. My austerity measures, intended to shrink down to one car have had this result: 3 cars. Those of you who don’t like old Mercs (you incomprehensible beasts) should look away...

I'll be buying a one-way train ticket for early next week!
Exciting! What is it... W124 or W126?
W126. In for a penny...
Nice, which version?

I would be very VERY careful with that seller. I have had a couple of viewings of cars he has had for sale that have amazing adverts, but are different when seen in real life.

It could be great, but tread with care and make sure you look over everything.

To be fair though, it has a years MOT, and it's £695. Repeat £695. Charles Manson could be selling it for all it matters. wink

Fair Point Olly, I dont want to get in trouble with the Piston Heads Mods, am just saying be very careful of the seller. It might be a bargain, but just make sure you check everything, HPI is a MUST etc etc .

I dont have an axe to grind, I have seen quite a few of his cars, and there is ALWAYS hidden horrors. Anyhow was just meant as a heads up to fellow Bargers to tread carefully.

Lovely-looking Alfa 166 Super from Norn Iron here, looks gorgeous but ad waxes lyrical while omitting to mention mileage, service history etc. Surely a cambelt and waterpump change in 2012 simply means it needs another change now...?

Not to mention the huge amounts of fuel you'll save by choosing the 4.2 supercharged V8.

...is an unusual sentence.

Not to speak too soon but I am off to pick up a new barge tomorrow. As it thread tradition I won't divulge what it is but will make the following important points:

i) it was once a £100k car
ii) I have not seen it in the flesh
iii) it is over 150 miles from home
iv) I don't have AA membership.
v) I have a one way train ticket.

The seller is a fellow threadist and has been very up front about the car so I am sure all will be well.

In 2014 I had the SL Shop do an independent health check. Bruce, the owner, sat me down to review with the words "We don't see many this healthy" which was very nice to hear. I will be very sad to see the car go, and thought about keeping it as a second car, but they thrive on regular use, and our drive is very crowded.
There's a thread about it over on http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/

From the thread details it appears its well thought of.

Mini barge purchased today for my dad: E90 330d sport automatic. Bumpers are scruffy but otherwise in good shape.

http://www.cliffordcarsales.co.uk/stock.html?car=1...

I didn't buy the car from the dealer listed. Interestingly, the dealer was a friend of the owner and listed it before actually getting the car off her. I happened to recognise the car/owner, made an offer below the listing price and job done.

As an aside, on his listings is a lovely 500SL that he was pushing last year at the same price, not sure if it's still there or an old listing.

Is that the same seller who had the azurite 320 for £4950 then stuck it up to £7950 after I enquired about it? Put me right off him if it is. That said, the 500 does look lovely in those colours, just needs black leather or that grey checked cloth you can get in R129s.
