Greetings from the Lakeland Motor Museum where there might not me any mobile coverage to speak of but there is at least wifi in the cafe, where I am presently lurking in the hope of encountering other threaddists. And, if it helps, being in an old dark brown leather jacket, glasses, short hair and a pair of moderately scruffy blue jeans

Wish I was there, unfortunately time is precious this weekend and I can't get away. Enjoy yourselves, it's one of my favourite museums - and don't forget the photos, lots of photos.

Congratulations Ben, I was thinking CL600 from what you were saying at MB World but I didn't realise bmthnick1981 was selling his. Looks very good.

I wonder how the barge meet is going? Nearly 12.00 so almost underway, if not already.

Enjoy my old car, Ben! I miss it too. smile
Nick mentioned it was previously yours. I think I should go and introduce myself to the guy who had it 2nd then I think I will have met (albeit virtually in your case) every owner.

I hope the meeting is going well, if the weather is the same as here it is a nice day for it. Just been out doing the ARB ball joints on the S211, not too difficult and will make a big difference.

Tomorrow is for R230 / W140 love!

The weather is entertainingly moist. Wish I'd brought an Amphicar

Did you all survive the deluge?

I did. Can't speak for the others but you know how it is, only properly ancient and once-expensive cars are capable of handling this sort of weather.

Actually the 944T was epic today in seriously heavy rain. You'd think an early-gen laggy turbo with 300 hp and no traction or stability control would be a handful in these conditions but it's just such a great car across country even on windy steep roads. Amazing traction, lovely balance, perfect damping for those roads and all the overtake you could ever want.

I stayed as far off the main routes as possible and made excellent time both ways from and back to North Yorkshire: I think the rain and low cloud suppressed a lot of the other traffic that you get up there on the wilder Dales routes on pretty days. And I imagine all the cyclists were watching the Tour de Yorkshire.

We really enjoyed the submarine meeting today. Any leaking barges were surely found out. A big, big thank you to Oa for organising it. Mrs r129 is a bit miffed that she didn't get a go and in your 190, so there must be a repeat performance (though I'd count that as a narrow escape for your car). It was great to see three fantastic Jags, I was pretty taken by the saloon. And now I want a 944 as well...

Kids look like they're really enjoying the picnic:

That 190 is ace and dibbsy when 0a wants to move it on.

Some weekend soon I'll come up your way with the 944 when the weather's less awful.

We're just back from the Lakes Loser Conference. Only took 3 hours to get back, but stinking weather for the first couple of them, and busy roads. Anyway, well worth it and a nice meet at a nice venue. Great to put some faces to names.

Shame we didn't get to see very much of harrykul and mccrackenj, but the brief chat was good. And that S Class, blimey; in thread budget by about 2030 I imagine.

Thanks to 0a for organising, and to everyone for making the effort to go. Gaydon Motor Museum next time!

We're back from a very soggy weekend too. Great to put faces to cars/names.

Took a mix of A roads and Motorways on the return trip to liven things up a bit. Few things are less exciting than a couple of hundred miles of motorway spray in something as low as an XJS.

The slow close doors on that S class were sublime and the antithesis of the slam-clunk of my car.

Hopefully the ladies didn't get too bored being drowned in the car park staring at old cars smile

Thanks Oa! Great to meet you all. Loved the range from the 190 to the W222 S-Class.

Thanks alec.e - good pics, with a few of my car too. Foolishly, I didn't take a single one.

Shame we missed the chance of a group shot showing us drenched by mid-afternoon.

Despite the weather I'm sorry I missed Loser Conference II - that said, I would have probably been in the SL and it failed to proceed for the first time in my ownership. Despite living on a CTEK, it refused to start after sitting on the drive for 2 hours. A couple of hours charge got it going and a new battery is on order, but roof and roll bar switches now permanently illuminated. Better here than in a wet car park!
