Thanks, yes the petrols are very rare. I've never driven one, but the 2.7 V6 diesel suits the car well I think. It's not quick by PH standards but it is by mine! More relevant, It lopes along effortlessly in a high top gear on the trans-european autoroutes. The final 3 litre HDi is even better (more powerful, and slightly better economy) but still megabucks...
I'm judging the diesels unfairly because they're not stinky Euro3 - with the dpf they're a lot nicer. I'd just rather have a petrol!I've also found out that they came with reclining electric rear seats as an option, got to have those!

Great! Balljoints, bushes etc on their way? Are you doing it yourself?I need to source a steering damper - any ideas for a 1988 F plate 190 2.6?!

I think the one I put on my W123 was a Meyle. As far as I can see, it's the same part across many models, but a part number search will confirm. Pretty easy to replace, and cheap in any case.

The seats are part of the "lounge pack". Most C6's had them (mine does). They're brilliant, but of course only your passengers get to enjoy them. There's also a button on the armrest so the nearside rear passenger can buzz the front seat forward and back..! Which can get amusing.
My LS430 had something very similar, with buttons mounted on the front passenger side bolster within easy reach from the rear. Great for Japanese businessmen, not so great if you own an inquisitive toddler.Croutons said:
Where do I need to look for the spec of a 2004 XJR? Thought it was Ford etis, but no data on it...?
What sort of spec?http://www.ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/Jaguar/1856...

I've loved it. It's more comfortable even than our new W126, particularly in the back. Fabulous to drive, annoying as hell to work on because there's no room in the engine bay, or anywhere else. More reliable than everybody expects, though. Mine will be up for sale by the weekend, if anybody here fancies a go...
Oof! That is quite nice! Never thought I'd have so much want for something French. Just how reliable are the 2.7 diesel units? And the C6's in general?
Am i also correct to assume they share many parts in common with the 607?

The magnificent hydro-pneumatic suspension is reliable and durable, a highly refined piece of engineering that is sadly no more.
The Ford V6 HDi is great, well regarded in these PSA cars as well as in the Jags and Land Rovers. No weak points specific to this fitment, and a well-known modern common rail diesel.

I didn't have a chance to give it a complete check, and all I could see was rear screens, which is a nice option, but I'd like to check the rest if I can. Vendor absent and the paperwork didn't have the build spec in.
What's going on with this S600, I'm sure it's been on here before? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-MERCEDES-S600-LIMO-...
Spotted a (possibly) nice X300 this morning - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252375580362?_trksid=p20...
Seems well loved, headling done, wheels look nicely refurbished, only concern is the past respray, hiding some filler?

Not many diesel barges come up in this thread.
Are Diesels not considered barges?
I'm asking because I have a budget and I would like a barge but this budget restricts me to the likes of the 730D and S320. Basically, the diesel versions. I've never owned a diesel vehicle before and I'm current smoking around in a turn of the century 323Ci and a fairly newish Toyota Hilux petrol.
We are expecting an addition to the family soon so the 323Ci would need to make way for something a lot more practical and larger.
Yes I could get a touring but I would prefer a nice comfortable place to sit when not ferrying the family about.
My question is, out of all the full size luxury sedans, which of these diesel vehicles would be easier on the wallet in the long run?
I've got my heart pretty set on the 730D due to having a preference for BMWs. But since I've never owned a diesel, i can only read about them and I've heard stories of swirl flaps and DPF's to last a lifetime.
I would please like the thread Beardists to advice me further.
The 745i is also in budget but V8 running costs scare the bejeesus out of me.
P.S I'm not based in the UK so the excellent used car deals you lot have aren't readily available to me. I will be shopping out of LHD Europe.

There is no problem with derv in this thread per se. It's just big engined petrol are undesirable to the masses so fall faster in price, and you get more for your money with say a privately specified top end petrol 7 than the rep version diesel, which will have a lower spec and more miles despite the price being the same. Are Diesels not considered barges?
The answer to your question is a Volvo S80 BTW.
