Dead ringer for my late lamented E30 Touring. Does he want to sell it?
Very much doubt it. Has had lots of money thrown at it, way more than its worth. 318i auto! Only on 80k.

If only some chump hadn't keyed it while parked up between 8pm and 1am on Saturday night on the Commercial Road. At least they only went at one panel and weren't successful in killing the bonnet star or wing mirror. Was toying with the idea of taking the R107 out and glad I didn't now.
How infuriating. I just can't get my head around why people would do that. Hope it's readily fixable.

Can anyone recommend a specialist local to me? (Hindhead area) I'm struggling to even identify which compressor I need from the list on the Euro Car Parts Website at the moment! (they seem to be a lot cheaper on here with discount compared to what I was quoted by a local 'semi-specialist')
The obvious answer is to speak to Olly at PCS in Horndean, he has an amazing reputation on the mb club site. I have used him, but it's a way away from me. He's probably not the cheapest. If semi-local is OK. I use vehvac in Edenbridge for aircon specifically, they may be more pragmatic.

If you post your VIN (first six numbers might even suffice), the barge-beards could try and identify the compressor and an economical supplier. r129 has refined this into something of an artform.
Similarly, if you would like to PM me your reg no. I could have a search - I work in the supply chain of one of the larger UK motor factors, and the catalogue and parts identification team sit just over there.

It would probably still be on the drive, but after replacing the useless wiring loom that was busy biodegrading (£600), the eta wires suffered the same fate and at the time it was a step too far mechanically for me to try and too much (£1500 ish) to be worth replacing on a £2500 car. So the Mercedes breaker got a VERY good deal.
That's a shame, particularly after replacing the loom. Too late now, but for info for others, I had the throttle body (for a M104, but I imagine one for a M119 would be similar) rewired by a guy on the MB Club forum for about £400 inc VAT and postage.

They aren't hard to rewire yourself if you can use a soldering iron.
Just peg the loom out on a large board and remove the insulation. Cut one wire at a time leaving about an inch of the old wire wherever it goes into a connector. Solder the new wire in and seal with heat shrink plastic. At the end re-wrap with insulation tape. My R129 is getting that done later this year.

I've been out too thread action for a while but happy to help. Are you sure it is the compressor? The usual cause of defective air con is a leak in the condenser. Anyway, I've found air con is not too expensive to fix and not quite the horror story many would have you believe—unless it is the evaporator!
Thanks all, the local 'semi-indy' tried to re-gas and found (with UV dye) a big leak around the pulley. It's weird as it had one at 60k miles (now on 100k) maybe it was a poor unit? There is also a bit of metal protruding on the pulley, not sure what has happened here.

Is it the first or last part of the VIN that is needed? With BMW's it was the last 7 digits.

Thanks

Ideally the whole VIN, but the first part specifies the model's variant.
I guess it would be something like WDB215XXX, knowing the XXX number ties down which type of W215 you have exactly.

That can help you get into one of the free parts diagram sites that for some reason always seem to be Russian.

Here's an example page from my 211, you can see the numbered items in the diagram given parts numbers below.
http://unitcat.ru/mercedes/7/1/F/211265/64V/61/045...

The key for the W215 is here http://www.everythingbenz.com/z/mtype/w215-215-mer...

With the full VIN and membership of the official mercedes club (or a paid subscription) you can access the official Mercedes online EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) which goes right to the build number for your particular car and will show the part numbers for optional parts etc.

Last part of the VIN is the crucial bit.

Could it be the 'O' rings on one or both of the lines leading into the compressor? Had that on my 129 with the same engine.

Fantastic. I love the SLC, and I love 70s brown and velour. I'm glad it's a long way from me because otherwise I might have taken a punt on it, and these can be very expensive follies.

Talking of braahn... I spotted this SEC outside a large used car dealer this morning. I was tempted to park in the Tesco next door and have a nose just for the hell of it but figured I might end up doing something stupid (i.e. buy it). What is a solid car worth these days?

Awesome. I've long had a thing for these. A colleague of mine had a -shall we say "patinated"- one in metallic pale (thistle?) green, and with me in my gold ratbag C123 we made quite the pair, bombing around town together.

There sure is! Love the W126 cars.

Still not heard any real interest in the E65 as yet.... One chap seemed interested but not heard back from Friday. I'll become a bit more proactive in the sale once it's got the airbag light sorted, but I'm not especially fussed..... It is nice driving it smile

I'm told it is leaking from around the pulley itself, I do trust the guy and would be happy for him to swap the part if I find one cheap enough.

Thanks, that is pretty much exactly the price quoted by the garage for the part so I expect they were using you as a supplier! I live in Lindford and the garage is round the corner. I had been looking at a Lucas item on CP4L (ECP sister site) which works out at £215 delivered but if it doesn't fit I'm stuffed.

VIN: WDB2153752A033424 (I will delete this in a few days!)

I can solder wires together, but for me un-soldering a PCB and then soldering in new wires would see the throttle body become scrap!

Most dealers seem to think they're worth £10million at the moment so that one looks fairly priced. Fab colours, Impala over Brazil, yummy.

The MOT history of that doesn't indicate a much-loved garage queen, although most advisories don't recur so it may not be too bad, and the most recent MOT looks good with only one comment. Only 4000 miles over the past 7 years.

I really want it, but do I want it more than not being disfigured/maimed/divorced? Tricky one.

The wires themselves should be ok, although the long length may be getting tired and stiffer, as said, if you have gone as far as to remove the eta you may as well add some new wires in, I'd do the same, cut most of it away and solder the wires together near the end. Then add some extra insulation incase the insulation breaks down again. DO THE WIRES ONE AT A TIME, you don't want to have that problem.
