Did no-one else get a 'nudge' from the view of a rare Viva estate beyond the target motor? And beyond that is what? A Z1??
Either this is an enthusiast sans pareil or it's his local branch of the EU-new-accession-social-club (aka 'hand car wash').
Can't be a Z1, they don't have pop up lights and the colour is wrong. Looks more MX5 to me, or maybe RX7? If that Viva Estate was a 2.3 Magnum, especially the rare 'droopsnout' edition, then that would be a great find, though not a barge...Either this is an enthusiast sans pareil or it's his local branch of the EU-new-accession-social-club (aka 'hand car wash').

I quite like this. Wheel trims are in bad shape and the interior is filthy. Plus, hatefully, the vendor has concealed the number plate. But I still like it.

Saw that a few days ago and immediately thought of you. I was going to em you the link but didn't want to put temptation in your way.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-260-E-PETR...
I can personally recommend this stuff:

As long as the interior isn't actually damaged an afternoon with this, a soft brush and a few cloths will have it looking fine again.
I think you'll find a nice pre-Sacco 260E utterly charming. I love mine, so much so that when the E320 comes back with it's wiring loom sorted it'll probably be for sale pretty soon, never mind the huge hit I'm going to take on it.
(ETA: when you do buy it, can I have the front passenger floor mat? I have a VGC original set of 3 but the passenger one is missing.)

Anyway, I am driven to looking by the needs of a friend and colleague. His mk1 MX5 is hanging together by rust and masking tape and he needs cheap, reliable and characterful transport at about £1,000 to £1,500. He prefers a manual transmission. He's not a car guy and he has very little mechanical sympathy. But he wants something with character that will last a couple of years. We went to look at a 190 yesterday but it was a bit far gone, a leaky sunroof being the main concern. I've been looking for a 200 or 230E, as well. Anything either well known or in the north east of England, send it my way. This looks promising: https://www.gumtree.com/p/mercedes-benz/mercedes-b...
Underrated sheds those W202's. The £650 C180 I bought the OM 5 years ago has only cost a s/h wiper linkage and battery so far. Even the a/c works. That would have been several lease contracts by now!
The rust situation is nowhere near as bad as my 210, underneath is spotless and only a few scabs on the front wings which bodged up easily enough.
Vaguely annoying that I gave away the least troublesome car I have ever bought though...

I would imagine that that would be a pleasant enough thing to smoke about it. The Don of Croy said:

Ok, not a V12, but it's within thread budget.

Have we had this one?

Lovely.
It's listed as a 2.0E, but badged and registered as a 190. Thoughts?

What happened to that chap that joined the tread recently who had bought a drive-full of old Mercs and Volvos? He's been poorly I think and wanted a hobby. Has he disappeared? I'd be interested in his sotry.
Possibly had his Internet connection cut off as he hasn't paid his bill.... All his money been sunk into barge maintenance?? W00DY said:

N/S/F wing doesn't look at all right where it meets headlamp. Boot doesn't seem to fit, especially at the N/S. Steering wheel looks more worn than the mileage would warrant. I think the photos flatter to deceive.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1988-MERCEDES-BENZ-190-2...

But for £700?!
Apparently I'm not allowed this so I thought I'd share it here:

The change away from the stacked lamps was a great shame. They add so much oomph to the car. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1972-Mercedes-Benz-280SE...
Sorry for slightly blowing budget, but check out this weapon (no pun intended):

Must be the nicest 212 I've ever seen. Love 2 seat rear benches.

Hiya. Am still here. Still got a drive full of sheds, got an extra Saab since last post. Iam pretty ill most of the time (got a genetic condition that causes gout like pain in all my joints).
Done little bits to the Merc and the Saab, want to get the Jag fully sorted by end of year :-).
Still love my barges :-) just dont get as much Piston Heads tine.
Cheers
Andy
SL owners: can you advise on if the final facelift cars have different indicator repeaters to the earlier ones? I've just received what I thought were the correct items, but they don't look as rounded to me. The car isn't here for me to compare.
On the subject of obsolete parts a couple of days ago, try to find a set of quality indicators for the front of the SL- nightmare!

Hoping the image displays OK - this was for sale in Chelsea the other day but I'm not foolhardy enough to enquire whether it is within thread budget. Great colours:
All these W108's are making me swoon... who was it here that was thinking of buying one just recently?SimonConnell said:

Image isn't working but is it the green one parked off Kings Road? I passed it Monday on the bus and thought about going back for a closer look!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
