First time poster but long time lurker here. I love this thread, such an addictive read so thanks. Sharing this hoping that someone will buy it to save me worrying about whether or not to take my first plunge into barge-dom! Looks like a bargain? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272272308431

Got someone looking at viewing the E65 tomorrow evening. I know full well I'll miss it if it goes!!

But with an impending house move, I also know that getting a cheap hack hatchback IS the more sensible (boring) thing to do.
Or keep it and hire a van for the move.

Or buy a barge estate. Everyone needs another car.
You aren't helping guys!
Ah, sorry. You could be right.

If your Merc wasn't to be sold, there'd be an equivalent t-shirt for you wink

I should have stated it's not a house move..... It's my first house purchase!
My first house I used my 928 as moving vehicle. Surprising amount of space, with the back seats folded down you can fit a bath in the back.

I'm not selling to help with the move (I'll have access to a van). It's to help with the increased monthly outgoings I will have.

Whereas my XJS is so leaky you can have a bath in the back.

I expect the answer will be "Monaco, you fool", but I have an OT Qn anyway.

We're pondering a decent top down trip in the XJS and the options are really the NC500 or a blast down to Monaco and back.

As we probably won't be able to get away until late August / Sept which should we do ?

September up the west coast, follow the 'NC500' as far as Tongue then head south from there. Brilliant roads. I'd rather eat my shoes than be in the south of France in August, far too busy for me.

Yes, 540 Auto Ascot Green, light tan leather.

Only 58K miles but after waiting months to get it back from the mechanics there's still loads of things to rectify and it's going to have to go back! banghead

Totally agree - I did the whole loop a few weeks ago, and the East cost isn't really worth fussing with, too busy.

One thing I would recommend is that if you pass Loch Ness then go via the southern rather than northern shore - much quieter and far more pleasant.

Applecross is a particular highlight:

If we're going as far as Tongue, we might as well continue on to John o'Groats. I made it to Thurso on a previous visit but as I was on a train, didn't get any further. Well, Thurso is as far North as you can go on a train smile

Here is the E34 535 that I previously mentioned.

Would appreciate somebody buying it so that I don't end up a single man...

Unless you have a burning desire to visit John O'Groats then I'd recommend heading south at Tongue down the a836, much better route.
If you do decide on the West coast, let me know, happy to help.

I bought one like that from Newport in South Wales for £450 in 2009, stuck a new pair of wiper blades on it then thrashed it to the 'Ring and back. Did about 10 laps of the 'Ring and probably around 1500 miles over the 3 day weekend. Sadly the HG went when we got back and I sold it for £150 ish to a Pie-key.

The '35 engine 'big six' is an absolute peach, recall seeing around 140 mph on the Autobahn

Ha, awesome. Although this listing has ended the car has been up twice before. I'd be shocked if it wasnt up again soon. The guy bought it and his wife hates it hence he is selling. Sounds like an honest car, bought from a country house in north London. No service book but stacks of history. All rust remedied bar a small bit on the passenger door (they all seem to go there!!)
