Yum. Might just bid unseen on that. The colour is almost as striking as Strela's apricot jobby.

White or Ginger? Opinions please!

My 540i had white indicators all round when I bought it including sides. I didn't think they looked bad against the Ascot Green. In great measure, I think it just depends on the colour of the car as to whether replacing orange indicators with white looks good?

But I've changed them all back to amber now. Here's a snap of the rear mid-way through for comparison. Which do we prefer?

FFS

Can you see them when you're wafting? Are they in your sightline when you barge past the poor people?

What on earth do you want to concern yourself with that - there's still fossil fuel at under £20 per glorious English pint and the roads are still open.

Your perspective needs readjusting

PS - it's a BMW, they're all optional anyway.... hehe
That's true! I'll get those dark smoked ones so the poor people can't even see me coming out of the dark before it's too late and I smash past them! laugh

Swooning a bit at that blue SLC. Why can't we have colours like that these days?

An Early 90's pre-facelift W140, would/should you?

Can the W140 300/320SE get out of its own way? Or is the correct answer always 500SE/SEL?

Can I also make a confession. I rather like the Z3 2.8. I suppose it is cramped, noisy and close to useless for my once a week trip around the M25 (where I would like comfort and quiet). But still, they have a certain something.
A doctor mate of mine had the 1.9 when new. Took me out for a spin in it to cheer me up as I'd ended up stuck at my parent's place for a couple of weeks leg-in-plaster following an apres ski injury.

He span it coming off a roundabout on the Leeds ring-road and wrapped it round a tree. We were ok, but it was a pain trying to get the crutches out of the mangled boot. The ambulance men were very surprised to see an accident victim reported to them as having a broken leg already having it in a pot.

I think they look nice enough, though the squat M Roadster is slightly better looking to my eye. I've just always had it in the back of my mind - was it a hard car to control or was my mate a dodgy driver? He then replaced it with a 2.8 - so little doubt in his own mind i think!
Didn't the Z3 have the same rear suspension as the E30, and therefore prone to a touch of oversteer?

I read there was not enough room in the compact Z3 to fit the 3 series multi link suspension, or the six speed gearbox. Therefore they went old school. The 2.8 is also the last one with a proper throttle cable.

Sorry to hear about the burglary, what a pain! We have a pre facelift S211, this replaced a discovery 3, which whilst a lovely design was costing £2k per year in repairs of typically poor quality components. Very pleased with the 211 and would recommend one. Despite it being on over 170k miles all it has needed in 18 months of ownership beyond normal consumables has been a front suspension arm/bush, which was inexpensive. Ours is only a 220cdi, but came with a comprehensive history and 7 seats. The 320cdi is I believe well proven and appears a great balance of performance and economy, I know less about the 280.
Thanks for that, that's the kind of reassurance I was looking for! Funnily enough, we got rid of our cayenne to get the s212 for the same reason you replaced your disco - £2/3k on a family car per year is just not worth it. Sounds like your s211 has been a good buy, and even though you say 'only' the 220, on paper at least they look plenty powerful enough for most duties. I'll be sure to report back if I can haggle the new
purchase into thread boundries!

Oooh... that's lovely. Very low estimate but then the bodywork restoration doesn't look like the most discerning job. Speaking as someone who happily enjoys driving an old Merc with much tattier bodywork, it wouldn't bother me.

Is it labrador blue, and bad white balance on the photos? Or a non original colour?

edit- 934 China Blue I think

Ginger vote here too. Love the look of ambers on the front of mine. A friend drove it back for me when I picked it up and they look brilliant In the rear view mirror!

Ref the 540, iirc manual 540's come standard with an LSD so that might help with the 'sporty' drive. I don't like the idea of the converted car. It might drive exactly the same but it isn't a factory car and my OCD spidey senses go all crazy.

I thought 934 China Blue. I don't think the pics of the w126 in the link show the colour particularly accurately. It's more like this:

The welding doesn't look the best (although that could easily be a work-in-progress pic), somebody has clearly spent money on it. The partial re-trim doesn't do it for me, either. But it's the MOT history that really put me off. On 21 April 2016 it failed on an epic list of chassis corrosion faults. On 8 June 2016 it had a clean pass with a single advisory: "heavy undersealed under car". Buyer beware. Could be a lot of car for the money if it goes in estimate.

I am afraid I bought all six copies available on Amazon at 45p plus postage but there are still loads available at a very modest rate. For the eccentric wordsmiths in our midst, this is a must.
A steal. They're at around 8 quid now. I missed a bargain.
£8 plus £3 post for 2nd hand is best l can see.

I reckon you could have a lucrative 2nd hand book lending operation here Jonathan! Let's say we each get a months rental for £3 each and we post the book on to the next PHer and the remittance to you, until we've all had a read.

Who do I send my £3 for the 1st month to, you or CdeG?

I'm feeling really bad, now. I bought them up not to corner the market but because I thought they'd make good gifts for petrol-head friends. I spent yesterday afternoon reading chapters out loud to my lady pupil, who seemed to enjoy it greatly (but then it's her job to enjoy my every word). If you PM me your address, John, I'll send one of the 45p specials over the water. That's five ear-marked. Only two spares left in my collection. It is a very good book.

Yeah some of the pictures on that (very useful) site have drifted a bit! Crumbs those colour coded wheel trims on the W123 are just the best, aren't they. I still can't face selling my ratty C123 (not that it's worth anything) - I've just SORNed it for a bit to put off any decisions, but whenever I see another one looking glorious I realise I just have to keep it.

Is "my lady pupil" a new euphemism we need to be aware of ?

That would be fantastic Jonathan, you're a gem!

I promise to either send it it back to you or pass on to another PHer when I'm finished.

Any ideas where I can find a mint E34? I've bookmarked searches on PH, AT, Car & Classic. Anywhere else? What are the owners forums like for finding cars?

Forum5 might be worth keeping an eye on.
