This looks like an okay C280 for under thread budget: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Might be worth you taking a gander over to the website and looking?
Very interesting!

I couldn't live with a green one, far too glamorous, I need silver or grey with black leather (ultra picky) BUT... that's a brilliant resource for Bimmer Glory - I hadn't been there before. Thank you.

Good: 2.6, 77k miles, air con, leather

Lovely. But £5650? Really?
The agreed valuation on my 190 more than that... more than the 500SL!
I know that you have a very nice 190, but the agreed valuation thing is really just an insurance conceit; useful for rare cars, and a comfort to the owner, but not really an indication of true value in a sales sense. One of my cars has an agreed insurance value very much higher than the amount I paid for it for example. It's only 'worth' that amount if I write it off!

Don't get me wrong, paying a decent/fair price for a decent car is the road to motoring happiness, but I fear that many sellers are looking at the classic bubble and equating 'old' with 'I can charge a lot'. 6 grand seems a lot to me for a 190 when there are lots around priced at very much less, and many of those seem to be good cars.

Anyway, back to barges.

We've flirted with Bentleys recently, but this must be a contender for the ultimate barge?

Nigh-on 211,000 miles in a V12 will have seen some liquid hydrocarbons come and go. Mainly go.

Looks to wear its miles well. £5k.

Have we had this before.

It's been on and off for ages. I'm guessing the mileage is putting everyone off, but it shouldn't be a problem. Mine had 190k on it when I bought it and it was mechanically perfect.

Well played! *Goes to buy M5, looks at bank account, then concedes defeat*

Will look awesome on some new wheels and a polish. I almost went for a 540iT with a few issues, but I couldn't resist the little 528.

I'mr really enjoying my E39 experience so far, feels so much more modern than the W124 , which is nice for a change, but I'm sure I'll hanker after something with a little more character at some point.

Even made my first purchase for it: A new external case for the key since the buttons have started to fall apart on mine. £2.99 delivered brand new. Not bad.
At some point there will be an M5 in my garage, but in the meantime i will drive this, fix the crusty areas and the AC. Given how cheap it was I can run it for as long as it takes to find said M5 and the finances to obtain one or until the correct E38 750 comes along, can't seem to shake the urge for one.

Yes, I think it has been on here a couple of times. I have no problem with those miles on a car like that, especially given it has had some work done. However I would worry about ever moving it on again!

This seems like a lot of barge for the money - 71k miles and under £2k. And red! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

What are the auto gearboxes like on this age diesel Volvo? and what problems do these suffer from, finding it hard to find a nice T5 petrol.

Found one I thought I'd be getting but it's not changing gear properly and even if it learns how to change smoothly again i'm concerned about it needing a rebuild sooner rather than later, so maybe a diesel is the answer?

Something like this for under £2k perhaps, no mention of cambelt though.

They are a known weak point, but if it's in need of help it'll present on a decent test drive. If you find a good one change the oil and it should be fine, it's a simple issue of being specced as "Sealed for life" rather than with service interval.

Bought at 62k (ish) sold at 67k. Was a VERY nice motor.

One day, I think I will buy a Lexus. I will rant initially about how quiet it is, then moan about how boring it is before selling it quickly at a loss.

These two attract me at under half thread budget and under 100k miles.

Lol, it was a great motor.
The endless "That must cost a fortune to fill up" became rather tiring, though.

Only realised just how well you could hustle a Jag V12 saloon along in the last couple of weeks of ownership.
Took it to France, Belgium, NL, Germany. Did around 6 or 7k miles in it I think.
Bought from Richard Biddulph, of Vintage and Prestige fame.

The Jaguar Sovereign is a thing of beauty, and one would never tire of just looking at it.

The Lexus is not a thing of beauty, but you just know it will outlast the cockroaches. I am determined to have one. I suspect it's the equivalent of an 80s Mercedes in terms of quality.

What a pity it's the equivalent of a 90s Hyundai for visual appeal.

Indeed, I am half tempted to find a really scruffy one in horrendous colours to go 'full ugly'...
