Lovely.I've never been keen on the "S" adornments though. Those wheels, mirrors and badges just look a bit Halfords.

Conversely I don't really care for the Shadow but would love a Silver Spirit. If this is not a consequence of the car's ages maybe it is a consequence of our ages? I was born in the 80's and much prefer the blocky 80's styling of the Spirit to the sweeping lines of the (to my eyes) 70's style Shadow.
Exactly. Plus Kermit the Frog drives one in one of the recent Muppet Movies.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-CLK500-V8-...
How ruinous would something like this be to run compared to my similar aged m54 engined e46?
Not talking about fuel, more repair costs. Seems a lot of car for the money and seems in good condition.

I had a 4.2Q for 6 months ,lovely car but the short trip 8mpg got a bit wearing and the constant worry of something expensive falling off made me sell it , nice as it is there's no way id pay anything like 5k for it
I ran a D2 S8 for 100k. That car was great. I'd put it in the bomb-proof category as many early Benzs seem to be.
I wouldn't pay £5k for it because I don't like green cars, not because of the quality of the car.
Having said that and looked again. It's a close call.
ETA - Over that time I probably got something like 21mpg from it. Plenty of hefty boot mixed with motorway.
I was younger and drove like a twonk. I'm sure more could be eeked with care.

That's rather nice, I love the colour too, because it's not boring. I double he'll get 5 large for it saying that though, despite it probably be worth that.W00DY said:
Looks pretty nice, over £1.5k with nearly 7 days to go however, so it's looking like it will go for quite alot. What do the thread think of something like this 9-5?

Same age and colour as my 850 GLT 20V 2.5 Auto (for those that love Volvo nomenclature).Used to eat engine mounts and front suspension bits, but very reasonable repair costs with an indy. It was the first car I had that offered 'all the car you'll ever need' after a self catering holiday in France with children and 4 x bikes on a carrier. Only let down was 25mpg average (30+ on a run).
Like the W124 I think this is a modern classic and someone, somewhere should be lightly re-furbing them and selling at handsome margins to peeps not fancying hiring a plastic modern for three years (says the hypocrite running a plastic modern).

Crikey. It was at 99p when I posted it. Not sure if want to pay more than that, but prices have definitely rocketed recently.
Thing is though, I'm not sure I see the appeal of an auto T5. You get fairly brisk pace, sure, but the 'box is terrible by today's standards and yet running costs are quite high. It's not a 'performance estate' in the same way one might view an Audi S2, 540i or 300-24 Sportline, for example (IMO). A manual T5R or 850R on the other hand...Surely far better plump for a nice 2.0 or 2.5 with those fantastically Volvo hub caps, if it's just a load lugger one requires.
