The performance increase with the 5.4L, however, really is palpable.

I just bought one of these in silver with blue leather. As the ad says, the v8 sound is addictive and with about 225bhp they are not particularly slow. Mine is definitely the epitome of a smoker barge though!164,000 miles

I was thinking modern but strolling through Geneva this evening, the coolest car by a million miles was a Caledonian green w116 280 S; tan leather, too. It was mint. I don't buy IKEA furniture so why would I want an IKEA car? Old is gold for me.

I hate that cross spoke BMW alloys.Joined the local BMW franchise in the mid Nineties as a junior car salesman.
Was so happy turning up to work with my new shirt and tie looking the business.
First job was to clean three cars which had been traded in all having the cross spoke alloy wheels.
Two were E30 BMW's and a E28 in White.
Toothbrushes out and off I went cleaning these blo*** wheels which looked like then had never seen a cleaning product in their lives.
The worst part was one of the E30's was a fisherman's car. So after the alloys were done I was given the keys to hoover the insides. Started the engine to get closer to the hoover point to find the fan on full blast. The smell of fish was unbelievable.

Still lovely to look at and surely now with the modern alloy wheel cleaners it would be a much easier job.

I really, really struggle to fault the CLS estate following our eurotrip - a trip I've done in a few vintages of MB now. I understand some of the derision of the new, but it really was perfect for the trip. 3,185 miles in a little over 2 weeks. I fail to see any measure by which an older car could be better for that type of trip. And I own both old and new. I was thinking modern but strolling through Geneva this evening, the coolest car by a million miles was a Caledonian green w116 280 S; tan leather, too. It was mint. I don't buy IKEA furniture so why would I want an IKEA car? Old is gold for me.

I don't care for the aggressive and over-adorned styling of modern cars, especially UK market Mercs. They're also lacking in specialness, being essentially mass-market products: it seems like everyone's got one, these days, and they're all the same. The colours are dull. And they lack two decades of stories to tell. I don't doubt that for any given journey they are superior in many ways. Until you get a puncture. But to own and to love? Nah.Honda Accord VTEC Sport
