Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 10]

Well having successfully managed to stick within barge budget with my sub-£5k Merc R129 280SL purchase a couple of months back, i have now utterly failed having just bought this (fear not, the SL is staying for a little bit longer until i can find a nice 997 convertible to replace it with).
It's a low-owners and low mileage (sub 60k) CLS 500 with knocking on towards £11k of extras added. FSH and detailed to the nines. It's an earlier 500 so cheaper road tax but losing a few horses over the later 5.5 (but does it really matter?). came in a few k over the thread budget, but no doubt it will be worth approx £2.50 by next week.
I was really REALLY tempted by a recent merc cl 500, but my 'daily' gets parked on the street, so i can't get too precious about it. The CL would just be a magnet for vandalism and i would cry lots if that happened as they are truly magnificent motor cars.
Anyways, watch this space for a 2000-W 120k mile E38 728i coming to a pistonheads classified ad near you soon for barely more than a bag of sand... need to clear the decks a bit!

Alfa 166 3.0 Busso V6 with manual box. Not perfect and needs a few bits doing, also can't check the MOT history as the plate is obscured but it's currently at £316 and I don't see it going much over the bottom of thread budget if at all.
In other news this is my new barge: A 406 coupe with the 3.0l 210bhp V6, manual box and black leather. I paid a grand total of £600 for it and it's great!

I love the engine in the CL but despite very very rarely taking passengers the two door did not end up working for me (odd as my previous car was an R230) also found the lack of space in such a huge car a bit of a let down compared to my previous LWB 140.
The guy I have sold it to has a LWB 140, an R129 and a W220 biturbo so quite a collection, but he does not really do computers otherwise he would fit right in on this thread.

Paint is pretty poor, there's no doubt about that, but it matches the colour of the rest of the car well and given the glue residue if it's off a breaker, then it'd need to be the same colour which at this age (if it was done a long time back you'd have to think someone would've replaced the badges.W00DY said:

Nothing looks worse or sadder than an old Jag with really bad paintwork. Hence adding £2K to that purchase price for a half-decent paintjob and suddenly (even all other things being well ...highly doubtful?) any of my visions of me mooching around, be-moccasined and corduroyed-trousered in a Jaguar XJ, for a mere £799, look remarkably more like a buying £3000 Priority Boarding Pass for the early morning flight to Griefville. And if it looks that bad on the outside, Griefville is almost certainly not the last stop over before reaching the final destination of Brassictown.
I suspect that Jag has been vandalised and had a cheap respray - the flat upper surfaces of bonnet and boot are both very nasty, but the flanks are in good condition save for signs of being keyed.
Still, for 800 quid it can't be that bad. If anyone wants an eye casting over it my Dad isn't far away, and has a decent eye for Jags as he's now ordered his 5th.

For an £800 car park snotter, who cares about the paint? It's a close enough match for the purpose. Bit of poor paint? Meh. It's a working Jaguar. With a ticket, and a V8. For £700! Because you'd chip him down to at least that. You'd get all of it back for the wings, wheels and seats if it blew up next week. Which it wouldn't.
Paintwork or not, there's a fun couple of years motoring left in that. I've seen more expensive lease car arrangement fees.
