Woody, I remember your chalkboard Jag. Didnt you also have get a Citroen CX ? I wonder what happened to all the slightly more off the wall choices. I remember one guy buying a RR/Bentley for £1K, but he didnt post updates, always wanted to know how he got on.

What happened to the Jag in the End ?
Yep. What a magnificent and terrifying time that was.

The Jag went to the scrap man in the end. No-one wanted it.

Was looking at the original thread and thinking how things seem to have become such serious business in here these days. Everyone likes some beardage, but I miss the fun. Your selection of sheds has definitely brightened the place up a bit!

Have you still got the CX? What was/is it like in use? It looks just right with those wheels, the yellow lamps &c. I'd quite like to take one back to la France, see whether it improves the natives' generally unpleasant demeanour towards their Anglo-superiors.

Haven't been around these parts for a long time but in need of a new car so where better to go?

Good to see its up to Vol 10 now. Think I only bought one car from the thread - LS430 - but certainly discussed quite a few others over the years.

Currently mulling a 140k Lexus LS460 at just a bit over Thread budget. There must be something a bit more exciting out there though.

Never had a Jag, Audi or Merc for starters...

No. It was fantastic to drive, really different to anything else I've driven, but somehow so right. The ride was sublime and things like the Diravi steering and the sharp brakes made it a pleasure to use. The engine was pretty uninspiring and mine had been converted from manual meaning that I missed out on the cool C-matic automated manual it originally had.

Little things went wrong quite frequently and getting parts is a bit of a headache, but doable. It's just not a good idea as an only car, but I'd have another.

The french aren't generally impressed by cars in my experience, but it's a lovely thing to do some miles in..

Welcome back Jonny.LS460 would be lovely, I'm sure, but here's some more interesting stuff.

Good shout, and a good price too. I've just bought one myself (Shameless plug) http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

From my initial research, the T6 autobox is basically the worse of them all. Although they are all prone to issues as they get older. The V8 on mine is sublime, although 15MPG stings a little.
Its hard to imagine the overtly PC Swedes rolling out 15mpg V8 4x4's. I wonder if they flat-packed the cars and sneaked them out for screwing together in the free world?

If they did, just imagine what you could do with all the leftover bits .... scratchchin

All the usual suspects there Woody - thanks. As you'll see below, you're basically on my wavelength.

'Issue' with a few of those is that I much prefer the newer / updated versions of each. Eg. LCI E65 750 shouldn't be much more than around £5k or 2006 L322 4.2 S/C is about £8-9k (one or two on AT). Same with the CLS, I'd actually like a 500 but would want the later 388bhp 5.5 which start around 6,6.5.

As for the 6 series, had a 650 from June '14 to last Dec. Lovely car but needed a change (and the idrive packed up).

The Irish plates are simple to change over, so don't detract from it

You should have done this with the Jag winkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTAXykiqsGs

Although i'm not sure where this fits on the spectrum of 'serious business' or 'fun'.

Well its taken 20 years, but I finally own a 124 :-) Just picked up the C124 I posted about last week.

Things didnt go quite as smoothly as hoped, I think the fuel relay is acting up.

Will turn over but not catch, after much faffing, adding fuel, changing the battery to a fresh one, and giving the Relay a good wiggle, it started :-) Yippee, so managed to reverse it out the garden, leave it idling for 5 minutes, then drive it up onto the recovery truck.

9 miles and 30 minutes of sunny countryside later, the bugger wont start again, tried the "starting with accelerator flat to the floor" that resulted in it catching running for about 2 seconds, then backfired and died again. At this point the delivery guys managed to reverse their wagon onto my drive and we lowered it onto the drive and off they went.

So 124 Beards, where should I start first ? Its not really been run for years, but has apparently had plugs/leads, service last year. Battery in it was dead, so stole one from the volvos and charged it up last night.
It was on yellow fuel warning light, so stuck 5 litres in.

No dash lights or strange noises, just cranks over but doesnt catch, if you try more than a few times you get a distinct smell of fuel.

But I already love it, and cant wait to get started on it :-)

Pics below

Parking is a bit tight, but I now know my driveway is exactly long enough for 3 Volvo Estates and a 300CE so long as they all touching and I am left with just enough space to swing the gate open to actually get in :-)

I wont get a chance to properly have a play with it till next week. When I hope I can get it started so I can move everything around and get the Merc into the garage.
First job interior, second job remove the chrome wheel arches to see what they hiding :-)

For those keeping count, for around £1,500 I have the following
Jag x300 xj6 executive
Saab 93 convertible (engine blew up WHILE being delivered, so paid scrap value for it)
Volvo 740 £75
Volvo 940 and a ton of Spares
Volvo 740 GLE auto
Merc 300CE
Should keep me busy for a bit and stop me looking on ebay in the evening :-)

Good work on the W124. My fuel relay went a bit funny and died, but some cardboard wedging it to one side to bodge me home, followed by a brand new one for £20 off ebay from China sorted it out properly.
