The joys of running a fleet of older cars, can be trying at times. I have a good exhaust guy through here if you need a recommendation. What's up with the roof?
It's upset and goes beep at the moment. If I had more time i'd shuffle it between various places to get it fixed. I think I'll just recover it and ebay it for a low reserve for minimal hassle. Life is too short!CharlesdeGaulle said:
0a, it's a pity if you've fallen out of love with it. Worth getting your local chaps to have a good look at it and throwing a few hundred quid at it to make it lovable again?
I'll get it recovered and go from there. I need to simplify stuff in my life so was thinking of just scrapping the old W124; it's rusty. I went to grab some things out of it yesterday after 4 weeks, and it just purred into life.
I'll get it through another MOT.

Full leather sir! Although the ride is quite DFDS.Pics please - I love American barges. A lad I used to work with had a 1970s Chevrolet Caprice Classic and it was fantastic. Proper "pimp" spec velour interior and about 28' long.

Sorry to hear all of this...sounds like you've been reaping a bountiful harvest of bad luck lately. I feel your pain. "Simplify stuff in my life"? Is there a viable alternative (for the money these days) to a BMW E39?
Come Son, cross to the Darkside! You know you want to....Mmmmwhahahaha!
There is no simplifying life.
On the whole, life is a pretty crumby business. Finding contentment is about constantly reducing your expectations.
Don't give up on the cars. That was me last week with the hole in the exhaust, the grumbling diff, and the poor alignment. It'll be something simple on the 129. Sounds like the alternator regulator? And for fk's sake, don't scrap the 124: it owes you nothing yet serves you still.

I'm currently preparing my 190e for its MOT test next week. It's booked in with a garage I've started using and have been impressed with so far. They're going to provide me with a fail sheet on Tuesday - then...
1) The friendly welder is going to tickle her underbelly to a high standard.
2) The MOT garage will pass it and do a few jobs for me at the same time.
Can someone help me with some advice?
A) It needs a ball joint as the steering is much heavier one way than the other. The independent specialist who diagnosed this is too far away (and has no courtesty car) to justify the journey. So what should I buy and do I need to do both sides?
B) Which of these do you prefer? I like them both: the plain font is much simpler and in keeping with the car, but the 3D is very much of its time and (IMHO) suits it. I simply can't decide.
A) I have always found that the second one fails within weeks of replacing the first one. It's not an expensive job, so may as well get both done. Euro Car Parts are have a big sale on at the moment (as always), use code "Holiday30" for 30% off. They stock Lemförder ball joints at £20.49, so £14 each. Have you got a tool to remove and replace the ball joints?1) The friendly welder is going to tickle her underbelly to a high standard.

B) Top one. Again, who's doing them?
The plates are DMB Graphics. They are flipping ace at reproductions. Even a photograph of a dealer sticker will come back perfect.
Full dealer sets are about £35 and I think a pair of plates are about £20.
I'll let you know how things go.

You need a nice summers day with the roof down to remind you what so good about the SL (Just drop it manually). I need to simplify stuff in my life so was thinking of just scrapping the old W124; it's rusty. I went to grab some things out of it yesterday after 4 weeks, and it just purred into life.

Those M119s don't like not being used. I make a point of running mine every week for a little drive out and it seems happy. If I miss a week it can be a bit finnicky. I think they seem very sensitive to battery voltage.
For the misfire - remove distributor caps and rotors, remove the bakelite bucket behind and silicon grease (a few quid at Maplins) the back of it after drying everything off. Reassemble and it stops all the condensation issues (which is what this sounds like).
You probably already know this but I thought I'd mention it for anyone else.

Not sold on the colour but looks like a well looked after car.

Strictly not barge related but.... Have any of you ever come across a car where the trip computer displays the fuel consumption as higher than it actually is? All the cars I've ever owned or driven all seem to suggest that the car is more economical than it actually is. My old 745i for example, may read 25mpg yet it was actually be doing 23-24mpg for example. My old 728i was the same, my old Golf was the same etc etc.
The new Corolla is the opposite. Over a pretty gentle 308 miles from my last fill up I filled up today due to being busy next week.... The OBC was showing 43mpg and yet 308 miles took 28 litres..... About 49mpg

Or put it on a 1p auction on eBay and get a lease on a golf R. I have looked!

I like the colour. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/j...
I suspect it isn't that cheap, and 'a credit to its former keeper' is another of those pointless, meaningless expressions that really irritates me.

Here's the BMW I'd perhaps go over to (stolen from the retro thread): http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/252512583283?rmvSB=true&am...

PS anyone want a 500SL? I'll post you the keys and give you the Google Map reference of a random street in Edinburgh.
It had been standing for ages at my old place so I changed the battery, started it, got it through town to a busy junction where it died and didn't quite have enough to restart. My phone also died as well. A nice chap from ATS saved me by towing it to a safe place.
I really can't be bothered to sort it. The roof needs fixing, I have not been driving it due to this hence the battery/running problem. My boredom threshold is quite low.
Sorry to hear that. If you're genuinely wanting rid and not just in the heat of the moment I'm based in Edinburgh and been actively after a '129 project for a while but the right one hasn't shown up yet...It had been standing for ages at my old place so I changed the battery, started it, got it through town to a busy junction where it died and didn't quite have enough to restart.
