Just been offered this at just over thread budget. V reg 728i, 80k. Owned by one of my friend's bosses from 2 years old and apparently well looked after.

Going to look at it mid week. Anything else to look out for apart from rust, fuel tank, suspension and cooling system?
Over thread budget? Very toppy if so. Think that's everything specific.
Sorry, I meant just over the bottom of thread budget

One of the best LS400s left, I suspect. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Not cheap, but you could do a lot of miles in it I bet!

Well the C140 went to its new home today. Although I didn't 'bond' with the car and have not owned it long I can't help but feel a slightly sad. The new owner also has a W140 as well as an R129 in the same colour as the C140 so quite a Merc collector. He also told me of his boss selling his S65 for £8k.....

Ah well the upside is I have a barge fund burning a hole in my pocket, avidly watching ebay / autotrader / everywhere for some other big inefficient Merc

Ben
I felt the same when I sold it to you Ben, whilst I didn't bond with it i was still sad to see it go.

Err, the s65... Can you tell me more? PM if raiser ... I do want one !

Seems dirt cheap, unless I am missing something.
I thought these were £20k+...?

Yes...on my first E39 which was an earlier 523i saloon they were so bad that on a couple of occasions in the dark with a bit of rain that I actually just had to stop. I just couldn't see where I was going.

Thank goodness for that - I thought I was going blind the first time that I drove my E39 at night! After the crap lights on my E61, I thought, based on the fact that everything on the E39 is better quality, that the lights would actually illuminate the road ahead. How wrong was I!

How about a 545 E60? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Look how plain it is!

(I just don't like E60s though frown )

Local to me, happy to take a look.

Not sure why it's a mk4 wearing mk3 alloys though.

Sadly that train has sailed. It was sold for that figure not for sale, if it was my which car to buy dilemma would be solved.

I knew something had to be up! At that price, if it drives OK and there isn't loads of rust and a ruined fuel tank I'd go for it.

All the money and then some, but it does look great.
Looks gorgeous but the history is odd. Until last month it hasn't had an MOT since 2009, seven years and just 36 miles previously : wonder where's it been?

Bi-turbo cl600 - probably too expensive given the suspension issue. I don't particularly like the tone of the ad either. Interesting though. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-CL600-V12-...redfaceKgAAOSwZVlXi~m0

These guys used to service my E36 W124 and are great to deal with. Would be very happy to purchase from them.

The ad reads OK to me, just telling it like it is. Is the fracture to the wing really a common occurrence on 215s - it looks like it's been attacked with a disc cutter! If it has no more issues than stated in the ad, it could be a worthwhile purchase with a bit of work.

Yes, I wondered about that. Some Googling suggested that the wings are plastic and that this cracking is a known fault. Two things I didn't know before today.

I had to check my headlights were working correctly on the first night drive in my E39. Is there a bulb which can improve things? No issues to report so far with mine, just the issue of a car being a bit too nice to the point where one finds constant little bits to improve.
Is it a post-facelift angel eyes car or a early one?

First things first: what voltage is coming through to the bulb holders, and what sort of state are the reflectors in? If "13v with the engine running" and "good" then put in some Osram Nightbreaker Plus. If not, then clean connections / earths and/or replace bits as necessary.
I'd say the first thing is to check the adjusters are working, otherwise the lights just point to the floor. Make sure they do the dip-and-rise on start-up, and respond to the angle setting. Replacing the adjusters on mine made 1000% difference smile The bits are a few quid on ebay, there are many many guides on how to do it (I heat-gunned the fronts off mine).

Turned down a deposit on my E34 520 in good faith as the guy seemed extremely keen (asked me to send photo's and videos) and it would have worked perfectly for me.

Comes to this weekend when he is supposed to collect. Radio Silence. FFS. Lesson learnt.

I forget but who was it that was interested from here?

I think this looks rather smart. 0-60 in 6 seconds and £3,700.
I am quite interested! How do these drive?
Very comfortable to sit in over distance, they're just a bit too stodgy/unwilling to play on anything but a straight road.
