IF, it's the same car, it's had a mileage haircut.

Different. Old Colonel has had that ages and I still don't like the colour coded rub strips. The price is nuts.

Possibly far too cheap but I can't face wading through this:

It's a full-on scam. The car was sold from enthusiast to enthusiast earlier this year but the scammers copied the car details and pics.

On the subject of E38's, prices for good ones seem to have risen substantially and whilst there is always the fuel tank caveat they are easily a better looking car that subsequent 7's, significantly less complicated and cheaper to maintain, and given the extremely high quality of the E38 in general I can't imagine the E65's are that much of an improvement - the brief time I spent in an E65 B7 didn't leave an impression of a massive increase in quality or ride..... the performance was quite good though.

Definitely a scam, his other listings are all car ads with photos in different locations

I found the E65 considerably more quiet and refined than the E38, the interior space was also better (especially in the rear), I think the interior was better, the ride was better despite the bigger wheels and it handled much better, too. Did around 25k in the E38 and a bit more in the E65.

that gear lever surround looks like it was designed on an etcha-sketch and then cast in solid Tupperware

S'funny, I looked at that earlier and though how wonderfully unfussy it looked compared with some German barge interiors.

I'm alright with it. The oddball over the obvious interests me. Honest John reckons they're credible too, apparently they go and drive surprisingly well.

In fact I'd probably have a punt at it if I knew had the slightest chance of ever being able to sell it.

Hello Chaps. I'm a (very) long term lurking non-participant. The reason for my silence is twofold; too stupid to give any worthwhile advice, and too ashamed of my Astra to out myself as an aspiring barge-r (bargeista?).

In short I want a w201 190 but I am picky. I fancy an auto, but keep coming back to this Malachite car because it has the right colour combo, good spec (a/c and leather) and.. well it just looks lovely. In my heart of hearts I think the driving I do would suit a manual car more, too.

Am I sliding into a urine-soaked spiral of confusion or is this a Threadists car? BorniteIdentity, maybe? Can anyone shed light?

How cheap would it have to be to pay £500 per year tax though? Keep it for 4 years and that's a bill of £2k, even if you paid £0 for it!

Welcome. All contribution welcome here, informed or not! Most of us spout utter tripe most of the time, and a number of us spend our lives in urine-soaked confusion so you're in good company.

A 190 is a wonderful thing, but I'd recommend the auto unless your drive really can exploit a manual box. Auto suits it more I think. AC is always nice, but I'd be flexible on seat coverings. MB tex is virtually indestructable, easy to keep looking good, and shouldn't be something you discount; velour is the holy grail on this thread but I'm not sure if the 190 ever offered it.

At the risk of sounding like a girl, I think colours are important so hang out for what you like. There are lots out there, so wait for a really good one and buy it, without worrying (too much) about the cost.

That 221 is ace but way over my hobby (and thread) budget. Lesser engined W221s are approaching thread budget, won't be long at all before they are £5k, nearly all 320 diesels mind you.

Yes. It's my car.

I now have both a manual and automatic Mercedes of this vintage. The auto box is very smooth but very lazy. You also pay a hefty mpg penalty for having it. I deliberately sought out a manual because I do 100 miles a day on the A1 and it's definitely a better option. The autos are only 4 speed remember and no overdrive - so the engine is busy and buzzy at speed.

It's different strokes for different folks though: you might find that you want the auto having driven both.

As for my car, it's had an awful lot of money and time spent on it. There are still a few things that I'd like to do, but the w124 is more suitable for my large family and large bottom (and legs)

Good luck on your search.
