SAAB is lovely. But asking top money, isn't he?
More than, in my view. 3k tops on my spreadsheet And it wouldn't be where my 3k went either, nice as it is.

Obviously you'd want to remove the tow bar and patriotic badging, but it is rather lovely.

Nice looking old thing, but it's a Vitesse so only has 180bhp rather than the 200 he quotes. Later Vitesse Sports were lowered, had Recaros, an LSD, I think a FMIC, and produced the full moo 200. They went very much like the clappers.
The Vitesse coupe was always Vitesse sport spec, with the lowered suspension, torsen diff, the final version of the T series with wasted spark distributorless ignition, and 200 bhp. Didn't get the recaros though. The Vitesse coupe was introduced in 1996 when the saloon and hatchback got their final facelift to have body coloured rubbing strips and at the same time the standard 180bhp Vitesse was dropped and they all became Vitesse Sport spec. Sterling coupe got the new KV6 and they also introduced a NASP 2.0 T series 820 Sterling Coupe at the same time. The original non sport Vitesse saloon and hatchback were pretty rubbish. I cannot think of any car that improved quite so dramatically as the 800 when they released the Vitesse Sport. The did go well, and the Torsen diff worked nicely. The engine was always very rough though, the vibration through the steering wheels and gearlever shattered the impression of luxury that the interior gave. Engine fragility aside a manual KV6 825 with the Vitesse suspension setup would be very nice. The 825 manuals also had the Torsen diff.
FWIW I put in a cheeky offer and he has come back saying £1500 is that lowest he'll accept and he's had lots of interest.
Stroking my luxuriant and long dormant Rover 800 beard here.

It hardly seems worthwhile posting any W220 S500 after that poster came on here a few months back to showcase a pretty reasonable one he'd bagged for 59p or something. But I'm a sucker for a purple Merc, and this one has new Michelins all round and an encouraging MOT history (plus an iffy-looking driver's seat). £3,495.

Have we had this grey-lord SL500? Looks and sounds good for £4,850. He's transferred the plate though, so can't check the MOT history (plus the current one expires in a month).

I'll admit to not knowing a lot about the W220, but isn't that rather expensive for a prefacelift car, even though it does seem a nice example?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-S500-Luxur...

And a mighty fine one it is too Sir.I would so love this to become a thread car, you know it would get the attention it deserves...
There was an 800 Vitesse saloon posted many months back. Just looked fantastic in blue. Sub £1k if I recall?

With regards to the K1 spring kit, should I just buy 2 sets and do the 190 when I get the gearbox oil changed?
I can't find one (part number 1262704477) in the UK or on German Ebay, and the shipping is come in at $41 minimum on a $7 item! Any help would be much appreciated.
I had this done on the 124 a couple of months ago. Part number A126 270 44 77, ordered from www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk at a cost of £3.69 plus VAT and carriage, total £9.22.I can't find one (part number 1262704477) in the UK or on German Ebay, and the shipping is come in at $41 minimum on a $7 item! Cleared up the occasional flaring between 2 and 3 and seemed to improve shifting all round.
All I need to find now is a standard exhaust (from the manifold back) for the 500SL

Sheeeit, that 9000 is lovely. We had a poverty spec one in the 90s and even that was great.
We had one too...not an Aero either. It was a 2.0 Turbo CD...you know the one with the boot bit sticking out at the back rather than a hatch? We bought it because with a 2.5 year old already in-situ we then got clobbered with twins on our second attempt. Our then(similarly Cat D repaired) BMW E28 520i couldn't accommodate 3 child seats across the rear and so all we could afford at the time, that could do the job in hand, was a Cat D repaired Saab 9000.
I remember it being reasonably 'quick' for its day, and within the context my experience of cars up until that point and also quite comfy. I think I saw 130mph out of it once. But it felt more like a 'fast bus' really with its FWD handling etc.
It had a great dash layout and displays which (again, at the time)looked really cool.
Saab liked to link their car adverts to their Saab Viggen fighter-jet and the dash made one think of the association and hence, by extension, "one was almost a fighter pilot" if you drove one!
I doubt that worked on many people...but I was a pretty penniless student and saddled with 3 kids at the time...so it worked on me. Even if I was 'flying' a Cat D, non-Aero (or even 2.3L Turbo) fighter-jet and hence ended up as 'M23 Motorway cannon-fodder' on many mornings to far faster cars, even in 1997, I used to feel good about it.
The reality was that whilst the interior and the Turbo-whistle (a novelty for me back then...and still the only forced-induction car I have ever owned) made you feel like you were in charge of a fighter-plane a la FW190...the reality was it was more like a JU88 transport, flying wounded out of Stalingrad (i.e. my wife and our off-spring) and for the most part destined not to make it very far before being shot-down, by far faster stuff around, even then, and crashing with all souls lost on the endless Russian Steppe!
I do, however, miss Saab as a brand. At least they made something that was a bit 'different' back in the day?
We don't get too many convertibles on the 1-5 Barge thread nowadays, save for the Merc 129s and 124s but I think Saab 95 convertibles are worthy of more representation?
They did come in some good colours too!

does anyone's Merc beard extend to the W221 S-class. Specifically I want to know how to tell if a car has night vision or not. I know it is essentially useless but I want it on my next car, if indeed that car is a W221......
Challenge accepted. It's when you see one with both headlight lenses as projectors...Doesn't have night vision:

Great car, but I don't think it is an SE as advertised. Sorry can't do pics from phone.

Doesn't have the electric heated seats or the superdoop stereo.
There are so many SEs around, I'd wait for one of those.
