Tried to post a pic of the burgundy /beige goodness, but got spammed to he'll by photobucket...
Yay!

Just what is it about a "proper" 6 series? That does look creamy-dreamy!!!
What sort of moron thinks that bin lids for wheels is a good idea?

Luckily it appears to be for sale with actual wheels, but it does make you worry about what other strokes of genius the current owner has deployed.

There's no reason to think it would have a modified engine. Given that it's a 1995 car it almost certainly uses a standard 6.0 XJS / X305 engine, rather than the earlier, different JaguarSport/TWR 6.0 engine that went into the XJRS in small numbers between 1989 and 1993.
I didn't think it'd be the old TWR one, but seeing as they've gone to the trouble of badging it JaguarSport I thought they might have, you know, tickled it a bit.
Hmnn. yes. The home made stickers on the dials are a bit ste.

Our TWR doesn't have any of that crap stuck to it.
My personal feeling is that it is more likely to be someone's project than a factory prototype. I'd love to have a go of that, 5 speed manual and the later 333bhp V12 must be a pretty compelling combo. It has X308 bumpers too, FWIW.

Lots more e39 love and mine still didn't sell from a few pages back...
I don't really fancy eBay for the potential hassle so is anyone interested at £1300? Can't really afford to run 2 cars and a work van at the moment.
E39 530i sport touring in topaz blue, auto with 125k. A little rust and few bits of bodywork need doing. Pm me if interested.

Thoughts?

It's local which is nice but I think it seems somewhat pricey.

It does indeed! Nice clear advert too.

Why would an MOT tester put, as an advisory: "Underside of car heavy undersealed" ?

A tantalizing concept, once the tat has been unbolted of course. Very tempted by this.
Oooooh. I wonder what was done to the engine other than the addition of those Sport rocker covers. Cool car!
Cooor I like that.

A lovely trip so far, with a record 28.1 mpg from the first tank even with driving spiritedly. Met my mechanic Tommy at the bar of the Applecross inn!

As per Mr JN, he is basically covering his arse.
"I can't see all the testable parts of this car due to the acres of Waxoyl thrown on. If it is found to be a rot box underneath, this is why I couldn't tell", sort of job.

Post the link again if it still exists? I've had a scout back a few pages and can't find it.

Well, if you don't need an estate and like the colours....

It has done very very few miles a year for the last few years; obviously the owner's not been keen to put new tyres on to the point of cords showing at the MOT a few years back which is a worry; what else has been ignored as "it doesn't get driven much"?

BUT: possibly a new set of boots; a decent service inc full fluids; consider changing the famously weak cooling bits (which go with age as much as mileage)... and you should have a car which will have an easy 100,000 miles left in it, is easy to work on, just about all parts available OEM or pattern. The only downside I've found with mine is mpg around town - it's very acceptable on a run though, but then it's an old-ish 3 litre auto, what can you expect? wink

I'd say the price could be considered reasonable for a starting position. It'd have to be a car you want to keep and use though - a few years will see the value of the initial investment when it keeps running for you as the ones with twice the miles or more start seriously dying; on the other hand, a fairly standard 530 auto is not really an investment car (yet? wink ) so no point buying and putting away IMO.

I have to concur. Even as a long time Munich fan I have found the E60-anything generation slab-sided on the outside and a gargantuan fk-up on the inside; I have even passed up on the Alpina's of this generation as I knew I would end up hating the car and I might fall out of love with the marque.
I should buck the trend then. I'm not a BMW fan at all (there are some models I love but I'm indifferent to most of them). I hated the E60 when it was new but I think that a good, original E60 is one of the best looking cars on the road now. I really, really like them.

The interior could be better

I completely agree with the above. Given the mileage and with decent maintenance that car should be able to serve well for a very long time into the future. Sure, you can buy a cheaper one...but probably by "cheaper" we're talking a few hundred pounds cheaper or certainly within the scale of one big repair or service bill that a higher mileage one could throw at you.

Years ago, when we bought my wife's ex-E39 528i Touring, we paid seemingly over-the-odds for the car (about double what you could buy one for at the time). However, it only had about the same mileage as that blue saloon (60K miles) and she kept and ran for quite a few years right up to 134K miles. Apart from regular servicing bills and wear and tear items the only really bad googly it bowled in was a head gasket. It had been worth paying the extra to start off with.

That said, on a personal taste note, I don't really like the colour scheme of that car especially the aluminium interior trim against the tan interior. I just think wood trim looks better against that colour. The brushed aluminium, I think, works better against a black interior.

It would be nice to now what recent servicing that blue one has had.

P.S In fact, I've just thought, that actually isn't very much more than I paid for my wife's current E39! And that's only a 525iSE albeit it had lower miles on it than that blue car.

There's a new addition to the BI family.

This came up for sale on another forum and, as a serial car buyer, I couldn't resist it.

300e 12v - 12 months MOT - 123k - 4 owners - JRG - £550.

The car is really sublime to drive. The flat six 3.0 engine is very lazy but so smooth with power on tap if you want it. It makes such a musical sound, ranging from burble to warble to an absolute WOLF CRY at anything above 4,000 rpm. It really is addictive!

With 6 cars here now, it's time to move on the 190e. It's been a tremendous car to own, and I will miss it like I'd miss one of my own children. The problem with having a fleet of old cars is they all need driving to keep them in top fettle. There are a couple of people interested and I just hope someone wants to give it a deserving home.

And me. Having had an E38 and then an E65 I think the interior on the E65 a big step forwards. It felt every bit as well put together (if not better) and the layout was far more functional, everything just made sense as to where it was, and despite what people say, idrive was a doddle to use after just a couple of days of getting used to it. Haven't spent enough time in an E60 to comment on that to be honest though, but appreciate there's going to be a step up in quality from 5 series to 7 series (but I'm comparing 7 series to 7 series...)

I think the Bangle-era cars have aged very well indeed. Including the interiors. A big step up from the E38 and E39 generation in my view.

I have just done 700 miles in my 300e 3.0... That looks good, tell me more; what's the spec like? I love the 3.0 engine, so much better than the 2.6 in the 190.
