Merc clusters are illuminated using 2x W3W bulbs, each held in a small holder. Their light is spread through the cluster by means of two clear plastic prisms.
The w126 cluster is electronic. It is important to disconnect the battery before working on it.

MB cluster hooks. CdG has first refusal, then Parisien, then harrykul.
I'm off work at the moment with back issues and on crutches so it may be a few days before I am near a post office.
I would like them back as my OTG bulb has packed up but it's not urgent!
I hope that's satisfactory. PM your addresses but it might be better for you all to forward to the next person

Toby that's jolly decent of you, thanks. It'll be a while before I get around to doing mine - I've yet to see the car properly in daylight, let alone start a jobs list - so I'd be happy to forego first place in the loan queue.I'm off work at the moment with back issues and on crutches so it may be a few days before I am near a post office.

Hope the back recovers soon, it's no fun being man-down.

This could end up being like the Ariel Atom Owner's Club catalytic converter which does the rounds of club members by post prior to MOT time each year.....I'm off work at the moment with back issues and on crutches so it may be a few days before I am near a post office.

A small update on the 'purple' 190e LE. It has been at my local indy for a few weeks now waiting a rear diff bearing - he has fobbed me off with various excuses but is apparently doing the work tomorrow. I've actually taken the car back the last couple of weekends to attend to other jobs!
Also on the list (or parts bought to fit) are expansion tank, water pump hose, PAS fluid filter (will do a partial change too) and a boot lid without a spoiler should be ready to fit this weekend

This could be very cheap if you can handle a bit of work.

£1,295 A8 4.2. High miles but it looks okay to me. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
Too expensive, I'm sure. But just look at the colour combination. Glorious. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
My major problem with bigger engined barges (with high miles) is the auto gearboxes.
I just can't trust them.
I fix trucks (currently boats) for a living and I am happy with what can go wrong with a manual gearbox in a car and now to repair but auto gearboxes in the past 15 years have gone ridiculously complicated and so more difficult and expensive to repair.

I don't think the auto gearboxes in the barges from the sort of vintage favoured here are particularly weak though, are they? I can see people not liking them, but not trusting them - especially if you're as handy with spanners as you seem to be - seems a little strange I'd have thought. I just can't trust them.

It's not so much that they are weak but that so many manufacturers jumped on the idea of "sealed for life" = "never service or change the filters / fluid" = "wears out after 120K - 160K miles". I'm looking at you, BMW. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
