The SEC does look awesome. I do agree about a few details just keeping it from perfection. I'd love to a Euro focussed overhauling where the end result just looked to most people like a standard restoration, but with all the little bits 'fixed'.

Nuking the budget somewhat, but an armoured W123 for the nervous bargista looks rather smashing.
Spending 25 grand on a car in NZ is quite a punt, even for the bravest threadist.

Looks nice though, and cool to be able trump your mates in the pub.

I saw that yesterday but decided it was a bit of a push for thread budget. Why the 420 engine as well?!

Yummy indeed. Can you even get the coachlines on a car these days? Do any new cars have them? I suspect not.

I didn't realise these were near thread budget! The original "saloon with an exotic engine which isn't as fast or as nice-sounding as it should be", a formula which didn't quite catch on until VW unveiled the Passat W8...

I'm looking for a cheap suitable winter and "going-to-work" car, and tomorrow I'm going to view quite a few BMW's of various degrees of decay wink and a Mercedes W210 Estate, a 200 kompressor more to the point, with a manual gearbox, the car is according to the seller rust free, I'll believe that when I see it. What should one look for apart from the obvious? Any real weak points more than rust? Car looks good in the pics atleast. Well equipped with glass sunshine roof, electric heated seats etc.

Link in Swedish, but the pics are universal biggrin: https://www.blocket.se/ostergotland/W210_e200_komp...toppskickbra_utrustad_69818568.htm?ca=14&w=1

Still hankering for a reliable, usable auto wagon that has some semblance of character, ideally 6 cylinders fed by petrol. Sadly whilst the Japanese manufacturers excel on appliances, there is seemingly no cure for the tedium of an Accord/Mazda 6/Avensis. A facelift W211 E280/320 is ideal, but hard to find within thread budget. Why haven't Lexus made more estates? I digress - my search turned up this - a little older, still an oil burner, but claims it will run forever scratchchin

A stretch out of budget, but also promising:

Still big in America, about 1/2 the cars seemed to have them.

Also listed on M3Cutters forum. Could be had for closer to £6000 by the look of it wink

Looks lovely though. I imagine KGF / 4Star and the like could spin a nice profit on it...

Forgive me for being slightly elastic with thread budget but I think this is wonderful - E38 750i SWB:

It's a sad fact that I do not have the necessary 6 bags to try and own this. Loved my previous E38 in 728i flavour but this would be the pinnacle for me as a usable, fairly modern and special barge. Would have a 560 SEC to keep it company though.

If it's not already been sold I could definitely see it appearing with the likes of 4Star as you say. Would then be firmly out of budget!!

Not for me. Do come round... please...

The C126 door handles are fitted to post '86 facelift 107s. About the only thing that's better about my 84 car.

Congrats on the purchase of the beast BigBen! Can't wait to see the photos.

I'm in and out of thread touch intermittently at the moment, fantastic to see some good buying!

That looks utterly fantastic, and easily worth the £6k asking. I hope a proper enthusiast picks that up.

You think? If the sellers description is true then it needs maybe circa 1000 spending? So you'd have a smart Sportline 124 cab that owes you £6k which doesnt sound bad value to me

You could get a good job done with replacement factory wings and the door repainted for that. But on any Mercedes with a powered folding roof, problems with that mechanism run expensive.
