Haven't seen this one yet.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282208508728

Maybe a bit steep on the price but looks great in my eyes, seems to have a few things going for it too; 32s, nice colour, history, comfort seats and sensible miles.

The best thing to do would to be buy this and sell me your 740

Posted about a Merc a few posts up but decided to go with what I know. BMW's so I got another one. And thread concensus seem to be that an E39 is indeed a barge.

530 manual, again. This time in oxford green 2 with beige hide, would love green over black, but pickings were slim.

Only a few really poor pictures, I am busier than a one legged man in an arse kicking contest at the moment, I have not even really looked at the car properly in daylight yet.

Please excuse the 'german' number plates, they will be going asap. The electric day to day car next to it is what enables me to run a V12 on other days!

Damn!

Seriously though it's hard trying to find a good 740 nowadays, within budget.

Fantastic you bought it, hope the vibrating noise or rumble is nothing too serious.

Could I have first refusal when you come to sell ?

Oh and let's have some pics
No pictures yet as it has some stupid looking 'german' plates which ruin the look of the car. Also one odd alloy....
I've missed this, what did you buy?
It is an W220 S600 bi-turbo, I had not posted any details yet but I have met Nick in real life so he guessed quite accurately wink It was on this thread a few days back on Ebay featuring a 'vibration' noise from the engine, I went to have a look and listen and am pretty sure the noise was not from the engine so bought the car.

By Monday PM it will have a matching set of wheels and normal number plates, at this point I will post pictures. Based on the drive from Banbury to here yesterday evening I am impressed, I am reasonably sure it is as quick if not quicker than my sadly no longer with me SL55 AMG.
Fantastic! Congrats. It might not feel it but I think it's even quicker than the 55k powered cars!

Das auto. Very nice chunk of German metal there, and a V12 too.

It would take a back to back drive to be sure but based on my well calibrated a**e I agree with you.

Brilliant! I particularly like the driveway combination.

800+ miles done in the last two days in the w124. Fantastic old thing and great to be able to listen to podcasts all the way!

No reserve 750il with current owner since '99, it looks a good'un

Looks nice, would love a 750iL but the "registered as green but has always been blue!" is putting me off.
I can't help but have naughty thoughts about bidding on that. Are they that much more ruinous that a boggo E38? Calling all helplessly deluded BMW beards.
Really the only thing that I can say ill of that model of car is its prodigious thirst.
Otherwise, it was a superb piece of engineering.
That engine, in that 5.4L form, is truely awesome. Way better than its 5.0 version. So powerful but so smooth...almost boringly so...it's that good.
Wow. I didn't realise how sought after these beasties are, way over thread budget with a few hours still to go.

In other news, the boot lock has decided to break on the S211 - IIRC another threadist was inflicted with this a short while ago? Interested to know how it was fixed!

Auction ended at less that the current bid last time around and didn't complete. scratchchin

Call me cynical but I'd wager one of his rootin' tootin' mates will end up buying it again.

They seem to only have become sought after and more valuable in the last 24 months or so, no one used to want them, I have had 2 good examples both of which cost me less than £1500 albeit a few years ago now. Fantastic cars and will be valuable in the future I think. I should have kept one of mine.

It required a new latch mechanism - a different part number suggested "improved" design. The motor could be heard running but it would not release - research suggests a gear strips, and there is talk of a fix using a replacement cog sourced from China, but I needed it fixed ASAP so £250 for the new unit from the local dealer. It took longer to unclip all the trim than change the unit which is secured by three Torx screws, one electrical connector and a Bowden cable.

Agreed! I'm too lazy to check, but there should be a thread for who has the unlikeliest ownership combinations. Would be fascinating to know how many EV's and hybrids are offsetting a V8 or above smile

I got Zoe when Renault were offering them on a very cheap (£140 a month) lease which was less than I was spending on SL55 fuel so I got one sort of as an experiment to see what EVs were like and if it was terrible nothing lost.

The outcome is I really like it and at least 5 friends have since gone electric after being similarly impressed. The main benefits are levels of silence previously only associated with big luxury cars and realising just how tedious going to petrol station is. Zoe goes back in December and I am desperately seeking an electric commuter car to replace it for a few years whilst my Tesla model 3 gestates.

I quite like the look of the BMW i3, but they're not very cheap.
