Love this! I'll no doubt want something to replace the e39 with in a couple of years and these have grown on me a lot. Lovely colour dscam said:

Flattering beige/gold - CheckUnfortunately the ghia spec was no longer top of the range (this was taken by the scorpio). It's coming to something when the ghia doesn't even have alloy wheels!
The shape has grown on me. I was looking a few months back for a scorpio in the burgundy launch colour with leather and the flat faced alloys. God knows what I would have done if I'd found one.
Luckily they appear to have all oxidised

Looks great, same colour as my 325. Were these the last of the 'brick sthouse' build quality BMWs? A good alternative to a Merc W124 maybe?EarlOfHazard said:

It is the nearest equivalent of a W124 in intention, quality and era. They are very solid cars, although like anything this age they can rust quite enthusiastically if not kept on top of. Unlike with the E-Class, the zenith of build and material quality continued with BMW for another generation after this, the E38 7-series and E39 5-series. But they are both more complex and sophisticated, which brings both benefits and costs.

£3500 even though needs some suspension work.

£2650 starting bid on ebay and I suspect it still wont attract a bid;£3500 even though needs some suspension work.

If I hadn't just bought a project house and had a daughter on 7th October I might consider it at £1000-1500. I think whoever buys if needs to budget for 2 rear shocks, 2 rear springs, new suspension pipes, new fluid, potentially other suspension components, do these have the valve blocks that are troublesome and expensive on the hydro w126 560s? There is then the other list of jobs and whatever is found on the MOT.... I think its £2k absolute minimum to put it right and get it on the road ... Let's face it if it was all easy fixes he would have done it himself.

Agree with this analysis. I think they have self levelling at the rear but a more conventional system than on the W126, I could be wrong. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ULTRA-RARE-CLASSIC-MERCE...

You could get a facelift S600 for 2.5 - 3.5k and that would be a much better bet.

None of those problems is a disaster but all of them taken together are somewhat overwhelming. And there will be issues that the vendor isn't aware of (charitable explanation) or has chosen not to disclose (realistic explanation). A shabby V12 w140 that has been sitting unused and has a host of faults. Hmm. I think I'd pay not to buy it.

It's probably gone with those missing two cylinders I am loving my Lexus LS430. It has made driving a pleasure again. The soundproofing is fantastic, - you realise how draining road noise can be. I have done a number of long journeys and always feel fresh at my arrival. The car has double glazing and seperate triple seals on the doors.
The toys really make a difference, - there's lots of them, - the number of ways I can adjust the seat for eg makes for what feels like I am sitting in a different chair.. on long journeys this is most welcome.
The car is huge, and parking was a concern of mine, yet I can park it with ease thanks for the sensors and camera - it's very easy.
I have an aftermarket exhaust and a ram air filter, both are quiet when pootling around (is the engine on?), but put your foot down and the V8 sounds glorious.
Car feels like a japanese rolls royce. I feel priviledged and lucky to drive it, yet it was cheap to buy, and with LPG, economical to run, which is saying something for an automatic, 2 tonne, petrol 4.3L V8. Love it.

I had and LS400 for a short period, it was sublime, and I would have another, perhaps the final generation so the box had 5 gears. The toys really make a difference, - there's lots of them, - the number of ways I can adjust the seat for eg makes for what feels like I am sitting in a different chair.. on long journeys this is most welcome.

Whilst I admit that the LS430 is dynamically a better car, its looks put me off, which is a pity.
