I am loving my Lexus LS430. It has made driving a pleasure again. The soundproofing is fantastic, - you realise how draining road noise can be. I have done a number of long journeys and always feel fresh at my arrival. The car has double glazing and seperate triple seals on the doors.
The toys really make a difference, - there's lots of them, - the number of ways I can adjust the seat for eg makes for what feels like I am sitting in a different chair.. on long journeys this is most welcome.
The car is huge, and parking was a concern of mine, yet I can park it with ease thanks for the sensors and camera - it's very easy.
I have an aftermarket exhaust and a ram air filter, both are quiet when pootling around (is the engine on?), but put your foot down and the V8 sounds glorious.
Car feels like a japanese rolls royce. I feel priviledged and lucky to drive it, yet it was cheap to buy, and with LPG, economical to run, which is saying something for an automatic, 2 tonne, petrol 4.3L V8. Love it.
I had and LS400 for a short period, it was sublime, and I would have another, perhaps the final generation so the box had 5 gears. The toys really make a difference, - there's lots of them, - the number of ways I can adjust the seat for eg makes for what feels like I am sitting in a different chair.. on long journeys this is most welcome.

Whilst I admit that the LS430 is dynamically a better car, its looks put me off, which is a pity.

Looks great (although I feel sorry for any kids relegated to the very rear). Is it an LPT or NA?

LS400 was a great example of Japanese copy-and-make-better. On the LS430 I think they got given their head with regard to the styling a bit too much, and the front is a bit of a disaster.
Super cars though, and great expressions of the relevant brand-values.

Facelift:
I'm still mulling over barge and 4x4 options, a nice facelift 430 in a dark colour and preferably with radar cruise is on my possibility list.

300h? Do tell more! What's good, what's bad? Refined, relaxed, ride not too harsh? These are on my radar for when prices fall into my budget (may take a while!)
I'm interested in a 300h too so would be keen to hear how you rate it, and how your experience of Cargiant was (that looks like one of their pictures, is that where you purchased from? They always seem to have a few in stock.phil_cardiff said:

How so? At least the E65 had a bit of character, the LS400 is just utterly yawn-inducing in the styling department IMO.
The LS400 certainly does have character and it is an interesting car. It is the result of a cost no-object single minded determination from one man to make his company build the best car in the world. In short, it is a landmark car which deserves it's place in any museum charting automotive history so far. They are designed and built like no other car before or since and it is really only as they get older the truly remarkable amount of money which went into them is becoming apparent.
The LS430 is a good car and in some ways better (it is certainly more modern) but it doesn't have the same engineering standards to it in some places and, being the second generation rather than the original, somehow isn't the same.

Interesting comment, i've driven both models and owned an LS430 for 2 years. LS430 is a much better car - it's more refined overall and is faster yet uses less fuel. It's more spacious, the seats are more comfortable. Mark Levinson stereo in the LS430 has to be heard to be believed. I could go on. Other than Air Suspension issues i'd argue it's more reliable too especially from an electrics point of view. One thing that put me off the LS400 was tyres- they are a fairly unique size being fairly high ratio and a bugg3r to get hold of. You can't see the exterior from the inside- neither are lookers. LS400 interior is seriously dated- LCD displays etc. LS430 - well it's not for some especially the lighter interiors with the red/orange wood.

I haven't got radar cruise, but I wish I had.My first choice was the dark flint grey, but this silver one had a decent LPG install so I went for that. I agree that the looks aren't the best, but I still like it, - I think the air suspension adds to it's majestic look as it floats along the road, - and it's size makes it somewhat imposing. Ultimately though, it's just a mode of transport, - I brought it for chilled out long distance cruising and so far it's done that brilliantly

I know it's not de-rigeur for this thread, but what kind of ppm do you get on LPG?
LPG IS AAAACCCEEEEE!!!Guessing he'll get mid twenties, at 44p a litre. So approx 50mpg equivalent ish.
With no sensory difference from petrol. What's not to like?

Didn't do as much upsetting in the UK (due to brand snobbery), than it did in the US. Watch reviews on youtube.
Save the LFA, no other car they've made has appealed to me so much. Do like the 300h though.
But the ls400 is expensive on suspension items. It was one of the reasons I sold it on. However I have also heard the 430 doesn't quite have the bombproof reliablilty of its forebear.
Oh and the LS400 was the bonus car in Street Fighter 2.
