Just about to go into the garage to install two brand new batteries into it (again).
Now, you'd think that was a only 5 minute job, wouldn't you?

nono

That's taken me an hour what with stripping out and reinstalling the CD changer and its mounting bracket etc., then removing the old and installing new the batteries in the correct sequence.

Nice to hear it fire up again though! smile

They look quite fancy, I think £12/week would be reasonable if they're a decent outfit.

You mean try and see if I can bargain them down a bit on price? They're charging £16/week for a car above 4.45m and the 8-Series is 4.78m.

Or maybe see if they'll reduce it for longer term period? Maybe a discount if I put two cars with them? Once the E34 540i has had its body and total respray done I'll have to sell it but it's not going to be a 'cheap' one and so previous experience tells me they don't fly off the shelf quickly.

I'd always give a bartering a go, but if they're a decent crowd even full price doesn't sound unreasonable for keeping some valuable metal safe.

Be very careful with car storage. Either give to a local farmer who you know well enough or be very sure who you are dealing with, where the car will be stored, whether it will be insured and so on. And check it more often than you think should be necessary.

£16 a week is not bad at all depending on what it consists of. I've certainly paid the local farmer £50 a month and I know one who charges £100.

I'm going to add some Osram NightBreaker bulbs today. I'm hoping that the combination will see a vast improvement.
...
Just on this note, if the dipped beam is the "projector" lense in your photos then I have successfully used the new LED bulbs in that style (Albeit on a motorbike) and the beam pattern and cutoff is identical to a halogen bulb. I asked the MOT guy about it too and he showed me as he did the test that it was fine.

The light output was way better than my Nightbreakers before that.

This was similar to what I fitted. Just a thought is all.

Worth knowing...thanks.

I wonder if anyone has tried them on a BMW? I'm just wondering if they'd throw up fault readings on the OBC?

Thanks...that's sage advice. I guess anyone can upload a fancy looking website these days and then when you get there and dig a little deeper there's nothing to back it up?

At least the house seems to be sold, derin!

I would offer storage if you were nearby but that looks like it wouldn't make any sense to you at all

Ahh yes, those ones will cause an error, well noticed, sorry. You need the ones with the canbus bits or the canbus extra bits as shown below. Makes it quite expensive unfortunately.

Also derin, I live very near Salopian if you'd like me to take a look at their premises and let you know?

The XJS takes a H4 bulb (I think) and I'm game for an experiment as we head into winter - can you recommend anything please?

Two I am planning on viewing this weekend.

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/142139173519?_mwBanner=1

This w124 220E looks fairly clean other than the ripped front seat that the sellers tried to disguise behind the belt.

Also found this w126 it's a bit far from me but could be a good buy, can't get mot history though as its changed plates which makes me feel a little less confident about it.

Thanks Jimmy...I'm not too far from there either (nr Oswestry) but if you're very near and could have a drive by and a nosey...that would be great! Many thanks.

r129SL has now got me worried that whilst the website may look like this:

http://www.salopiancarstorage.co.uk/gallery.html

The actual premises might look like this:

The "classic car enthusiast" owner's own car (and his pet) like this:

And the man himself like this:

Which would be less than ideal at £16/week for the privilege?

I can't make a recommendation of a specific bulb, but I've bought a couple of LED lights from seller ftylink on eBay (no idea how to reference to the eBay app) and they have worked without error (in an MB and a VW) and fitted without issue. They list H4 and H7 bulbs (or is it lamps!?).

£16 a week does sound cheap Derin, but my experience is based in the Surrey area. I'm paying £156 a month down there!

My place in North Yorkshire is £80 per calendar month including battery conditioner, which a bit of calculator action reveals as £18.46 a week. Nice secure dry storage and mine is probably the least valuable car in the whole place.

I'll be interested in your findings. I upgraded the lamps in my XJS to whatever the allegedly brightest supermega+ type things Halfords had, but still, 80's light technology is relatively just a bit pants.
