Infrequently, a 2.5 or 3 litre Mondeo will pop up on this thread, which generally gets a good press. A Vauxhall however, gets either a stiff ignoring, or worse. Which, given the praise heaped upon other things here, is rather odd. If you look around, you'll be surprised how many Vectras are still on the roads, at all model levels, while prestige cars of the era have rusted away. Vectras are anonymous and you don't notice, unless you look. They're fairly easy to work on, parts (even with a VXR tax) are plentiful and cheap, and so long as they don't have tin worm (hello Mercedes fans!) they romp on just fine.

Yes the steering is a little wooly, and the 2.8 is nose heavy so suspension wears. Many cooking models suffered from Peco exhausts and smoked rear lights, which further alienated the cognoscenti when, knowing their market, Vx added the same from the showroom. "Elegance" was not on the spec sheet. But your high end Bmw buyer was not looking for one of these, the Evo article shows the list price equated to a 318i (and Vx would doubtless discount from that anyway).

But, 251+ bhp from a 2.8 with a turbo, and yes they respond well to software mods, they have a cult following and many are fastidiously maintained.

This one is cheap atthe BIN, but will never be for thread, who hates the post 03/06 tax penalty, before alloys and zorsts are looked at. A shame. It wasn't just a good car "for the money", the VXR was a good car!
(exaggerated snobbish post alert! Awooga! Awooga!)

Yeah....but...

They are soooo naff it is untrue. And the VXR bit is like an intense, zingy naff reduction drizzled liberally over the regular sunday roast Vauxhall naffness.

All way too ITV for this thread. If its a smoker barge, then it is 10 Lamberts, not an antique pipe.

Ford is miles posher than Vauxhall, or at least is it miles less class-bound, and I think it has been done deliberately by both brands.

Ford sponsors the Champions League. Vauxhall sponsor the England team.

Thanks I need to clean and polish the rest of it now rather than just the front! I have actually purchased a clay bar kit, might try for that r129sl meditative state

It drives very well. I am very fond of it indeed. The little straight 6 purrs away tootling you along in a very pleasant way indeed.

The car now looks like new. I did do some clay bar work!

The sideways fold in the boot is great:

The crease in the roof is just wonderful:

I do love the 190.

That is only 2 miles from me. The mot history is probably the best I've ever seen.
Saw that early today, tempted to go for a look just out of curiosity, but 7 grand??!
Called for a look today. It's good, interior as new, apparently drives very well. Miles appear genuine. It needs a repaint however. Bird dropping marks on the roof and badly painted rear quarters. With a coat of paint it would be a stunning car, probably too expensive at 7k to allow this but he's keen to deal.

Tyre profile/ wheel arch gap size looks slightly off?

Are those the correct wheels? Look like the Z3 items.

A lot of E34s are not on the right wheels, because in may cases they were delivered with metric wheels which only take unobtanium super-expensive metric TRX tyres.

However, far more suitable substitute Imperial wheels than the ones fitted to that particular E34 are available from the BMW back-catalogue.

Why on earth is it that the diameter of car wheels is almost always measured in inches?

Haha, the decision had been made a month or more ago, I'm just very slow to post!

Obviously I'm not running it as a daily as it would ruin me, which brings me to a nice surprise - the insurance is £180! For a 27 yr old on a 6.75 litre turbo I had expected a lot worse...will be seeing a lot of this though
What a magnificent, regal looking car.

Interesting, good to hear first hand opinions, but at 7 large for a 260E saloon I'd expect perfection! A coat of paint including roof, and you're getting close to £10k! Tempted to go along with my 55k 260E and see what he'd offer as PX? By his standards it'd have to be at least 6? hehe

OA, Halfords sell a clay mit. Means you can clay your car in minutes rather than hours.
