For a really REALLY good time, move your mouse quickly between the 3rd and 4th picture thumbnails.

Made me laugh anyway.

I am on the port tonight.
That's either a tiny car or a bloody huge croquet lawn.

A batch of late 124s (E class) were built in India. Not the 126 (S Class).

How is that Volvo legally reregistered without an MPH speedometer? It only has KPH.
Because there is no legal requirement for an MPH speedo, just a speedo.

There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of UK registered cars with kph speedos.

Construction and use regs appear to contradict that:

35.—(1) Save as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3), every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch, separately.

Something for our modern classic Mercedes enthusiasts, a treasure trove of Merc brochures. The site is in Dutch, but the brochures are in various languages.

I recently went in a late 1st gen 6 cylinder diesel CLS and was very disappointed with the interior feel and quality. For some reason I thought it would be better. Great looking cars though and that's cheap and has a big v8.

Must admit I haven't been in a CLS, just look good from the outside. I assumed they'd be nearly as comfy as an S.

Having been driven in a W221 I think I might have one of those on my "list" - having said that the W220 has been just so good my next event horizon is getting further into the future!

Well, after just under 9 years it's time to say goodbye to the slk32. I bought it in 2008 for £15.5k and spent £2.5k on a kleemann remap and supercharger pulley upgrade.Trade in value was £4k so monthly cost of ownership (excluding servicing / consumables) was £129.I handed it over to the missus in 2012 after buying the slk55

In 47k miles its only let me down once(crankshaft sensor). In many ways I actually preferred the turbine like smoothness of the V6 to the slightly more raucous V8.

Mechanically it's been bulletproof but with all mercedes of this era its achilles heel is the frilly bodywork. I had the bootlid / bonnet / wheelarches done under warranty in 2008 and since then the wheelarches have been done twice more. In addition, there is more rust appearing by the bonnet badge which would need attending to.

As it's at the bottom of the depreciation curve the dilemma was whether to continually have to deal with the bodywork or bite the bullet and get something else. In the end it's not me driving it so the decision was out of my hands

Some pictures from when I first picked her up.

Well that's no good. We don't normally see cars which haven't even been run in yet - what is that, just over 1,100 miles a year?

Only if you ignore the exemptions mentioned in the first clause you quoted i.e. "Save as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3)..."

Para 3 says
"(3) Instead of complying with paragraph (1) a vehicle may comply with Community Directive 75/443 or with ECE Regulation 39.2"

And Community Directive 75/443 says that kilometer speedos are legal. The only time they are not legal is for vehicles manufactured for the a domestic market where imperial measurements are used. That is not the case for the Volvo, which was manufactured for the Japanese domestic market.

The relevant standards laid down in 75/443 make it clear that KM markings are mandatory throughout all EU countries with MPH required only under certain circumstances:

"4.2.1.
The graduations shall be of 1, 2, 5 or 10 km/h. The values of the speed shall be indicated on
the dial as follows:

"4.2.1.1.
when the highest value on the dial does not exceed 200 km/h, speed values shall be indicated
at intervals not exceeding 20 km/h;

"4.2.1.2.
when the highest value on the dial exceeds 200 km/h, then the speed values shall be indicated
at intervals not exceeding 30 km/h.

"4.2.2.
In the case of a speedometer manufactured for sale in any Member State where imperial units
of measurement are used, and where transitional arrangements in accordance with Article 5 are
in force, the speedometer shall also be marked in mph (miles per hour); the graduations shall
be of 1, 2, 5 or 10 mph."

Thanks. The seats are what sold it to me originally, they were a designo option

It's already gone I'm afraid.(well tomorrow morning) £4k as a trade in. It needs another bonnet respray and round by the boot lock. The arches were done this March and I had all four wheels refurbished by Lepsons last year with 4× new pilot sports fitted
I was tempted to get it fixed up and look for around 6k but the idea of all those 'best price m8' texts and people offering me two cows and their first born son meant it was just easier to take a financial hit.

I'll miss it though, and the 404bhp
