I had a quick drive in an Audi A7 recently which had a flat bottomed steering wheel. I said I wasn't a fan, the best the salesman came up with was that it made getting in and out easier. I replied that my car has an electric steering column that lowers when the ignition is switched on and raises when turned off to make getting in and out easier, and that I was surprised that a £60k car doesn't have one... he went quiet then.
I am so glad that I dont have to deal with the general public in my job.
Why is this feature even required?? Outside of a dedicated sports car I've never struggled or even come close to struggling and thought 'if only it had...'
Maybe something to do with being 'powerfully built'? Or maybe just portly and seat too far forward?
It was mostly for the Americans, but I do quite like the way the column moves up and down...

A genuine comment- picking my 7yr old from school (talks about cars all the way to and from school daily) asked me why people buy big 4x4's and asked 'are they scared they'll get hurt in a Normal car'? I was Abit naughty I admit and added....Yes and they tend to be small out of shape people..

So that ties in biggrin

People always seem to forget that that grill gets split up by a license plate.
I think it looks great as far as modern faces go.

With or without a plate, that front end is an absolute minger.

It is a dogs dinner. Asian OEM's in particular seem to be going with a bold, however hideous = stylish, design language.

The automatic reverence of anything German........
The 2 series active tourer stopped that in its tracks smile
Are you sure? I keep seeing hundreds of the stting horrible things bloody everywhere. I feel a little bit sick every time I see one of the bds.
I was convinced they'd be a flop, in fact for ages after the official release, I didn't see any on the roads at all... then about a year later, BOOM! they're everywhere. And looking downright horrible at the same time. Looks like the [horribly unfunny] joke is on me frown
Proof positive that if you put a German badge on a turd, people will still buy it.......

I'm really glad that people are starting to realize that German made does not equate to the best. I think it's long overdue that they fall from grace, but people seem to hold them in such reverence even though the cars are average and a lot less reliable than other supposed inferior marques. Mercedes rust, VW emmisions, Audi drivers attitude and image, none of it seems to matter. Still let the sheep get on with it.
Hang on all of you.

Have you taken a 2 series out for a spin with its intended use in mind? May look a bit disabled but it's a nice car on the inside and they are pleasant to drive

They still make mental cars with obscene power for our benefit, why shouldn't they make cars for the likes of my mum?

I have driven a 2 Series GranTourer....

It was the best mpv I have been in and that is the point, this car is fit for purpose and good at it. Unless you would prefer a Citroën

Sporty, i.e. rock hard, suspension. Just what you want if you're driving an Elise around Castle Coombe, less so when it's a Mondeo along a pot holed b-road

Shame BMI is worthless in terms of health vs ill health - “healthy” for 6’2” is 18-24 range wink

There are plenty of tall SUV owners (I am however not one of them being the near lillipution stature of 5’7” when in my heels wink )

Eye of the beholder, I think it looks better than 90% of the cars on the road.

As for asian manufacturers, disagree again. I think they make some of the best looking big volume cars, Mazda for example:

But again, each to their own.

EV cars. In principle really great ideas and i love the thought of them. But dear god why do they have to come with so much smugness. As well as the use of ICE ever other word when bestowing the virtues of an EV life.

Happy to stand corrected, but whilst I think you're right about the hatch, the estate is different...

Like most of the stuff these days, take the badge off of them and you wouldn't have a clue who the manufacture was, sorry forgettable junk imho.

When designing cars these days, do the designers walk around a plain clay model of a car doing slash karate chops so they can add a nondescript line into a car to make it look different, sorry they just look crap.

Each to their own. To my eye at least the current 6 is the best looking saloon car on the market bar none. Certainly better than the god-awful looking stuff coming out of the supposedly "premium" German marques these days.

Stolen from the same thread you linked but the hatch has a completely different system.

This was true of the old estates, the new estates have all 4 connected.

Hatch has always had 4 fully functioning exhaust pipes.

Retina-burning headlights capable of illuminating the dark side of the Moon. Great for the photocopier selling tosser behind the wheel, less so for oncoming traffic, or is it meant to be like that in a typical "I drive a fking Audi so fk you" fashion?
