Pedantry I know and I apologise but...

"Forward Collision Alert"

One assumes for when eyes and concentration are focussed elsewhere. In which case driving isn't top of the priority list at that moment...where driving is the activity being carried out.

I get it, and goodness knows we've all had that glance-down-glance-up-OHst! moment...but I'm not sure I'd want it in the back of peoples minds that their car will tell them if it thinks they're going to crash.

I also love the original DC3, was way ahead of its time and could do almost anything asked of it. They certainly don't build 'em like that any more.

Look how simple the EP3 was and that sold 1000's. Was just a good drivers car without all the unnecessary c*ap on it and cheap too. It all went down hill with the FN2, that was a truly shocking Type R attempt. Why did they find the need to put an air conditioned glovebox and footwell lights in what was supposed to be a track focused hot hatch.

wrong....they put those things in the GT version. If you wanted a plain type R you just bought a non GT spec. Simple. Gave people a choice and guess what ?..nearly every one sold was a GT spec. Blame everyone for buying GT specs not Honda.
Most only bought it for resale value, it shouldn't of even been offered. Bit like the air con on the EP3. The ones with air con were more desirable secondhand. I bought two new EP3 and none had air con, it didn't bother me.

Honda need to stop watering down the Type R brand and take it back to the original ethos like the DC3 and EK9. They are just glorified repmobiles now with all the toys.
Rubbish, the whole point of a hot hatch is that it can do both, cruise to work on the motorway and b roads back home. Maybe there was a time when a DC / EK could sell but this clearly isn't now otherwise companies (Renault aside with their special additions) would make them more often.

It's not a five seater.

Only two belts in the rear and four seats on the V5.

I like it. It's a design that either you like or not, I personally like it and I would buy one if finances allowed. Don't care much about being turbocharged, my last 4 cars where turbo charged (2 diesels and 2 patrols).

I love mine. It goes, stops and corners like stink and turns heads. I can fit a dog and surfboard inside (but not on a trackday). Well built and economical on fuel if necessary. Well pleased with it smile

Quite like them also. Just wait a while and the looks will be less divisive as we acclimatise. Remember how crazy modern the last civic looked at the time.

It's a shame the looks are so divisive, personally I like it and I'm not an especially showy person. I've had mine for a month and love it so far, it's actually very refined and I'm getting 38-39mpg on my commute, so combined with the practicality of the car it's easy to live with. The seats are just about the best of any car I can think of (although it helps if you're not too large!) and it's a nice place to be.

I find the performance superb when you want to open it up, and the much maligned +R mode isn't as bad as some have made out. It's just a shame you can't opt for the additional steering weight and sharper throttle response without also stiffening the car up, but it's certainly not unbearable as some would have you believe.

I didn't really consider any of the rivals to any great degree - the Golf R is a lovely car, but just not that special (and I prefer the looks of the GTi), the Focus RS looks like a lot of fun but I'm not a huge fan of this shape of Focus, and the interior doesn't look so great. The Megane also sounds like fun, but I've had enough problems with the Renaults I've owned previously. The Cupra just doesn't hold any appeal.

Love the new TYPE R.. Have owned the EP3 and was worried about the lack of the VTEC "cutting in YO" but it is awesome, once u hit around 3000 revs this baby flies!!!!!!!!

But one thing that you must note.. it is NOT a 5 seater.. the civic TYPE R has never been a 5 seater.. and even though I said I would buy the new one.. they still said it will ONLY come with 4 belts

but still love this new TYPE R....

I'm a mad Honda fan and went on a test drive a few months ago. Very unlike me but couldn't get over the halfords looks. Just that tad too embarrassing for a professional role/meeting clients etc. Shame because it drove well

I absolutely love mine! smile The styling is not everyone's cup of tea, but why drive a hot hatch that looks like all the other dreary barges on the road? Loud and "shouty" is better IMO!

Ok its a mobile advert for the company I work for but that wrap will peel off one day leaving my cars paintwork all fresh and new (hopefully!!)

Sums up my feelings.

Such a dogs dinner in the looks department, looks way worse in the flesh. For some reason it cannot pull of the wild look in the way a mk2 FocusRS does (should point out Im not a massive fan of that either). I genuinely believe Sochiro wouldn't approve.
Well the basic Civic isn't exactly a looker to start with - bung on all the "Halfords/Demon Tweeks" addenda that will fit, and you have a dog's dinner (or is that a dinner of dog)?

Whichever, only a mother could love it! M135i/M235i for me at that price-point, barring a spot on the V8 Fastback Mustang list!

I get mine tomorrow and after multiple test drives and pondering I cannot wait. Yes it looks questionable but everything else is amazing. It drives so well and that's why I bought it.
I tried the golf R, good but didn't drive as well. Plus didn't feel any better or special than my mates gold gtd.
The rs was the main contender but over a year waiting list, I can't wait that long and spec it like a civic and its 35,000
Leon was a little plain looking for me ( civic is a bit extreme but can't win them all) bmw - quick, refined and loverly but spec it and it's expensive and was too small, I needed more space
The others were too expensive.

I would like to know those who don't like it have you taken it for a test drive? I have come from an EP3 and the FK2 is much better. I will miss the 8500 red line but this is a much better car. This isn't in the same league as old type Rs so cost wise yes it's a lot but look at what you get. (Or don't if you find it hard to look at)

It's isn't for every one but each to their own.

£33K for a Honda Civic? LOL. It looks proper chav 'innit? I can see plenty of these doing doughnuts in supermarket car parks in a few years time with the owners wearing their obligatory baseball caps backwards.

They should call it something else then as the original Type R's were always track focused versions.
Maybe Civic Type R'ish would be more fitting for this new version.
The badge is just being used as a selling point now rather than what the older generation of Honda engineers designed it for.
I've been a Honda fan for years having had a CRX VTEC, 2 EP3 Type Rs and 2 S2000 in the past but Honda has nothing that inspires me to want to buy their cars anymore. Sad times.
