I think the fact that you know them through motorsport is probably skewing the sample set somewhat. smile
I see your point....

I'd say even with Lotus, at least half the new buyers I've known aren't really very interested in cars.

ETA: They don't tend to keep them very long when they buy an Elise, though. hehe

Let's be honest, Coxsters were always bought for the badge. A 4 cylinder engine will make little difference to sales.

Thinking about it, given the obviously naming link to the 918 and the fact there is presumably now a gaping hole bang-on the centre of gravity, does anyone else think we may soon see a mild hybrid version?

I seriously doubt that all coxsters were bought for the badge. I've never owned one, but driven a few. I'm sure a few were also sold because they are very nice to drive.

I guess it will most likely be the replacement for the current Spyder; "718 Spyder" would fit nicely in the range as a baby "918 Spyder".

The turbos fill the space where the other two cylinders were. In fact.....I believe they really struggled to fit the new engine in...

Let's be honest. Most keyboard queens don't actually list their own car.

£62k for a 4 cylinder drive train....not sure about that
The other one in this country (that EVO tested) cost £68k!

I really liked that article and thought it was well written, I like the thought of this 718 as well.

But as usual Porsche take the mickey with the options and put you in a position whereby you "feel" that you should spend another 10k to get it up the scratch.

"Turbos" plural? I thought it only had one?

Not that that means more space available for other things since the exhaust from one side needs to find its way to the other somehow.

I think that considering you can now buy a 3-cylinder BMW saloon (who would have thought of that last century) the thought of a 4-cylinder Porsche is not too bad..

P.S. I would still buy the old 6-cylinder one.

Evo magazine has posted a YouTube video on this car which offers a closer look at the detailed styling and the sound it makes. For a redesigned car I found it underwhelming - both in respect of the detailing of the body and the sound it makes. The price is eye watering too even without counting the extra 20% added on for the listed options. It is an awful lot of money for the badge.

Makes a £100k GT4 seem like a bargain.

I just had a look on the configurator...what do you mean by up to scratch? 10 grand?

For 3 grand I can get cruise control, a bigger fuel tank, sport seats, 19" wheels, pasm, torque vectoring including a limited slip diff. Seems ok value.

Yeah I just specced up how I'd want it and only got £3300's worth of extras.

The cost of some of the options is a bit daft (£1k for a one inch wide strip of wood anyone?), but I just wouldn't spec them.

ETA: In fact, has anyone ever specced wood in a Boxster? I'm surprised it's even available!

Seriously underwhelming. I just think the styling is a dog's breakfast and it sounds terrible.

+1

Underwhelming is the word that springs to mind with me too!
