'And', are you for real?

I can not be bothered to read your diatribe, as you are clearly incapable of constructing a grammatically correct sentence.

It pains me to think you are even considered a journalist and your view on Golf R's is irrelevant, if you can not even pass a basic exam in English.

I've got the same car, Dan. It's absolutely sublime (coming from a Nissan 370z). Vs the Nissan, it's faster, safer and more refined, although no way near as sexy, but Cayman aside, what is?)

Thanks mate. Interestingly enough, I have just been looking at Porsches as well! And this leads me to another bit of love for the S3 - so far I am struggling to justify the extra expense vs increased utility (economist speak there).

The plain English version is that my wife (as the voice of reason) poses questions like, "How much faster do you need to go on the way to work?! Is it really worth all that extra money just to be stuck behind a queue of traffic in a Porsche instead of your Audi?". Fair points. I know this is Pistonheads where I have to pretend I live in my car and track it every day and can drive like Senna crossed with McRae, but the reality is that my commute is still a boring drive with progress largely dictated to by the 6 ditherers up ahead and weekends feature family and daughters singing along to Capital FM. I'm struggling to justify extra expense on the rare occasions when I can go for it.

Maybe I am just getting old. DAMN YOU ADVANCING YEARS!!!
How about an S3 saloon in a Porsche colour?

Aiming for the " of the day" award? If so, that apostrophe after the R somewhat dilutes your entry.

S3 saloon in blue is best cuz the blue isn't offered on other A3 models. The S3 saloon is even faster than the S4 from 0-60, yet costing much less and easier to get around the city. It is... The fastest saloon car in its segment and a bit more. Looking for the 2nd hand market to drop some more.

I'll get back to you!

Dan

I was having a look at these yesterday and would love to know what they're like. Very tempting partly because they're exceptional value for money.

Keep us posted. This 230 VRS with the magic front diff will be a mightily interesting car, especially after something like a REVO remap.

Quite the vitriolic diatribe over small beans! biggrin

Personally, I'm more interested in the Content of the Articles and find Dan's work generally a good read, even if we disagree from time to time; minor grammatical and spelling infringements matter not a jot when seeking conversation with folk sharing similar interests - in this case, all things automotive.

Anyway, the good news is: you don't have to read the content here at all! Yes, it's true! You can choose not to of your very own free will and, even decide to toddle off to an English Forum and start a debate about nit-picking Grammar on Social Media!

I was showing the VRS estate to my other half yesterday, desperately trying to convince her that we don't need to replace an SUV with another horrid SUV and that we can have an estate instead.

I would love to know what the VRS is like on a twisty B Road smile

The dealer can turn off the fake exhaust noise for you, it sounds rubbish as its through the stereo speakers and they didn't pick a particularly good "noise" to sample either.

The throttle map depends on the driving mode selected, the more sporty ones tend to be a bit off and on, did you try all of the modes?

I didn't bother with the S3 as a decently spec'd one is close to RS3 money, but then its a lot more than the Golf R but not that much more of a car. If I wanted an out and out drivers car in this upper market class I'd be looking to the M2 with all of the performance goodies from BMW.

You don't even need a dealer to do it on MY2016 cars, you just do it via one of the settings in Individual mode. Either way it never sounds great and I do think they could have engineered more mechanical sound into the car from the exhausts and the intake etc. Saying that, when I'm out with my family in mine, or doing long motorway trips the car goes into normal mode so I can get it as quiet as possible.

I think the main difference with the dealer doing it is that it applies to all modes rather than just individual.

I completely agree with the noise, if they are going to pipe in the noise then they need to properly pipe in the noise through an actual pipe with a switchable flap like the new NSX rather than use the speakers.

I do think that VW have missed a trick not offering a sports exhaust as an option for those who want more noise, something switchable like the dealer fit Mini sports exhaust would have been awesome.
