Is there going to be an R173? There won't be another SLK, so can't see an R173 coming out? Unless the SLC is classed as an R172..? Brainfart
Well the SLC is just a rename and a facelift of the R172, so unless they completely stop this line which is possible, the next full generation should be the R173.Edited by CaptainRAVE on Thursday 7th April 20:16
I've had my slk55 R171 for almost 4 years now. Given that large engines in small cars are a thing of the past I'll be keeping it for a long, long time.
If porsche had any brains they'd introduce a cut price 'club sport' version of the 4 cylinder Boxster rather like the 968 . That was a time when porsche charged less for the lightweight models!

Does it not look a bit tame for an AMG car?
The R172 did too - exhausts aside, you'd struggle to spot one over one of the lesser ones. Seems to be a more common thing now; the new C63 looks alot tamer too.The trouble with the SLC43 (in my eyes) is that it's lost the only thing that made the SLK AMG line "special" - the V8. It never won any driver/handling accolades, but it had its own unique angle that gave it a true talking point.
Now...well now it's just a turbocharged 350.

There's a quiet confidence about any Mercedes rather like their drivers. Here is a classy sporting machine with an air of superior restraint so missing elsewhere.
If you need peer group approbation & are convinced nobody is sniggering behind your back then buy Boxster otherwise this is the mature yet still enthralling path to tread.
Did you write the advertising copy for the Mercedes aftershave and other tat that has been much lampooned in the bargain barge thread, or have you not been a Mercedes since the late 90s? I can't say I have felt much quiet confidence when a white 220d of any description rattles it's way past on the way to sell IT services to a company in Kettering. If you need peer group approbation & are convinced nobody is sniggering behind your back then buy Boxster otherwise this is the mature yet still enthralling path to tread.
Cheese aside I've always liked the SLK and do keep an eye on the values of the V8 AMG versions, a real left field choice and it does say good things about anyone who went for such an interesting option.
I remember reading an article (I don't know how credible it was) that suggested that all this turbo charging bks we are going through with new cars was not entirely necessary. Which is a shame as we are losing out on some magnificent machines. Lamborghini V10 in an Audi sedan? Yes bloody please.

At least you're upfront and unashamed with the snobbery, I suppose.Cheese aside I've always liked the SLK and do keep an eye on the values of the V8 AMG versions, a real left field choice and it does say good things about anyone who went for such an interesting option.
