Have I just bought something stupid?

Cheers Rob, something I have read up on, and a shame we don't get the bigger wheels and tyres but, as I mentioned, it won't really be used a lot, and certainly never driven in anger. I have another toy for that.
I'm not saying don't give it the beans in the dry Oh, I meant 255, not 225 tyres.
Check the gearbox when it arrives. I test drove a low mile silver one in Belfast 3 years ago and it made a horrendous clunk/bang on the down change every 3 or 4 miles. Sales guy I think hoped I didn't notice, I pointed it out, he said he'd ring me.
He then came back basically saying they didn't know exactly what was wrong but whatever it was they were not fixing it as it would be too expensive. Some mug obviously bought it then.
I'm by no means saying it's the same one as I can't remember the reg, but there can't be too many about here. Just remember worst case you have 14 days under the distance selling act. I've had a couple of run in's with hurst jeep, there's one decent sales guy but the rest I'd never want to deal with again.

This is interesting, and it could well be the same car. This one has had a new gearbox fitted to it (MB 5 speed apparently) as there was an unknown fault with it, so it has now been replaced according to Hurst. The sales person I've been dealing with seems fine, and has pointed any faults out via video link, so hopefully it should be fit for purpose. He then came back basically saying they didn't know exactly what was wrong but whatever it was they were not fixing it as it would be too expensive. I'll be taking it for a good long test drive though, just making sure it's OK.

Update please, you've had it for two days already.
This is true. I went to pick it up on Tuesday morning and met the driver at the nearest motorway services to me (Birch on the M62), where we were supposed to swap cars over, him taking my old WJ and leaving me with the new one. Driver didn't have a clue he was supposed to be picking mine up, and had a full load to collect so had no space for it anyway. After a quick chat with his boss, he followed me back home, him driving the SRT, where we left it and I ran him back to his truck. I then got back home, but by this time over two hours had elapsed and I had a bit of stuff to do. Work type things which were getting in the way, but they're still important to me.
Mid Tuesday afternoon I decided to have a play with it but needed to tax it first. No problem, got the full V5 so went online to spend my £515.
First problem was that the DVLA site asked for a 12 digit number from the V5 but I only had an 11 digit number on mine, possibly being due to it being from N Ireland? Anyway, I thought I may as well go to the Post Office to do it but, as it's not taxed and the insurance had now lapsed on the old Jeep, I decided to take the Merc instead, which took longer than expected as I still love driving that one. Got to the PO, guy looked briefly through the documents and it all went through easily. Great, now got 12 months tax and MOT and it's insured so off we go. Got back home and did all the swapping over again, Merc back in the garage, old Jeep out of the way and the new one ready to go. That was as far as I got as I had that many messages from work I just had to abandon the idea of going for a blast round as I was knackered by the time I got sorted out.
Wednesday arrived and I eventually got to have a play with it. First job was to fill it up and then get back to the office but the long way round, mainly just to test things out and get the feel of it. Initial thoughts are that it's an "interesting" car to drive. Subdued and quiet under normal conditions, though it can certainly pick it's feet up when required. It's a lot harsher ride than the old Jeep, with a lot less roll on corners, though it still seems pretty comfortable under normal conditions, which is what I want it for. I'm not over enamoured with the run-flats as they make it pretty solid, though they'll have to stay on for a few thousand miles as they're nearly new. I've no idea what it's like on fuel, not overly bothered either, though I do check using Fuelly.com so I'll find out at some stage I suppose.
My impression so far is that it's a nice bit of kit, certainly engine wise. Pretty basic inside, typical of the brand really, and the outside is nothing to shout about either really, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It's got impressive acceleration for a big lump of car, though it's just another Jeep as far as the average person is concerned.
I've had it now for just over 48 hours, though haven't yet done 50 miles in it so I'm not really going to comment anymore until I've had a chance to play with it and find out some more bits, hopefully this weekend. It's going up on a ramp on Saturday morning at a friends garage, mainly for my own peace of mind as I want a good look around it. I've already changed a sidelight bulb this morning, so I'm interested in whatever else the MOT may have missed. Having said that I know a bulb can go at any time, though I just want to confirm everything else is as it should be.
I'll hopefully report back early next week or even Sunday with a couple of pictures.
A bit late, but three months down the line I thought I'd update this thread with my thoughts on the Jeep.
Good points first: -
It drives really well, starts/stops and goes exactly how it's supposed to do, with no drama. It's quite nippy for a 2 1/2 ton lump as well, picking it's feet up quite nicely, though I don't get to do this often as it's mainly just used as a shopping trolley at the moment. I've had a couple of long(ish) runs in it and it's behaved impeccably, though it's a bit low geared for motorway use with the five speed box. The box incidentally is spot on. I've had a few Mercedes with the same one in them, and it's certainly on par with any of those for smoothness of changes. A bit notchy when cold, but after that spot on. Having said that. it is brand new, so it should be really. It also corners really well for a big lump staying level throughout, and when the back end does start to let go it does it really progressively.
When I first got it I started to play with a few things, and noticed that the navigation unit wasn't working as the disc was older than the firmware according to the message which came up. Spoke with the dealer who sent me a new disc, though this still didn't cure it. Around this time I also noticed that the multi change CD player wouldn't work on the move. The supplying dealer suggested I took it into my local dealership for a diagnostic check, which I did, and they confirmed it was knackered. I then got a couple of quotes for an aftermarket unit and, after deciding on a Clarion unit. Hurst paid for it all, including the Jeep diagnostic charges.

Rust. I hate rust. The underside is/was covered in the stuff though as it's only on the surface there's not a lot I can complain about, as they are all going to go this way if not looked after. It seems as if it's lived in a coastal area, so everything is coated in it. I've already started getting it to an acceptable (to me) standard, and half the front has now been repaired and painted, along with the rear sub-frame, though I will be doing the entire underside eventually. I've already started on the rear axle, and will be carrying on with this over the next few days. I'll get there in the end though, as you're all probably aware, these things take time.
The exhaust, whilst not actually leaking, will need replacing sometime soon, as it's really badly rusted, though it will have to wait until it starts blowing as other jobs are taking priority at the moment.
Suspension. I've changed all four shocks, as a front strut had a very slight weep on it. Again, not enough to justify a warranty claim, though enough to annoy me, especially as the rear ones were rotting away. Every bolt on the front end was an absolute nightmare to undo due to what seems to be a lack of previous maintenance, and I actually managed to snap one of them, which wasted another two hours. Ah well, these things are sent to try us...
Brakes. Fine at the moment, though I will be swapping them out as soon as I get any spare time or money, as the disks will not skim on these apparently, and they are looking "tired", with lots of track marks especially on the rear of the disk.
To be fair it's not in too bad a condition really and I should just get in it and drive it, though I do like things to not only work correctly but to look the part as well, hence spending a lot of time underneath it cleaning stuff up.
In short, I'd recommend one of these if you can live with the running costs. It's atrocious on fuel, which I knew anyway, but as I don't really do the miles, this doesn't matter too much to me. It's so far averaged 15.5 with a worst of 13.3 and a best of 19.9 in a total of just over 1,200 miles. It's a comfortable car to drive and quite relaxing, though the interior is a long way behind a Range Rover with lots of hard plastics. There again, it's a lot cheaper...

It is a AMG, not a BMW and with over 630hp, I would be very cautious too
Don't blame you, I'm sure that's a handful!! Also, by having a daily car you get to enjoy the E when you decide. As for your choice of replacement, I'm not convinced hahaha. If you're happy though, enjoy.

Well, I thought I'd bring a bit of closure to this thread as I've lived with the SRT8 since May and gone about as far as I want to go with it, mainly due to the comfort factor. Or lack of it. I'm just finding it too harsh a ride for my back so it goes to a new home next week hopefully. I've done most of the little jobs I set out to do with it, though most of these have been time consuming rather than money. Apart from the Magnaflow cat back exhaust which was a bit of a whim. Sounds nice though.
I've not advertised it, though have enquired about part exchanging it a couple of times, which seems to have generated a bit of interest. A dealer contacted me last week with what I considered a reasonable offer so we've provisionally agreed a price and date for him to collect. I'm obviously going to lose a bit of money on it, but I've done this all my motoring life, and I'm only happy that it's not going to be as much as I first thought.
I'll be sorry to see it go to be honest, though I need something softer as every bump in the road now seems to jar. My Mercedes is a harsh ride, though at least the suspension can be dialled down for a long drive to something like an acceptable level. I now have it back on the road after a 10 week wait for my uprated gearbox and turbos, though with a lot more power than before I still prefer not to use it too often in the Winter months.
I decided that a Range Rover, which was my first choice before I bought the Jeep, was needed as a go to car and, having done a lot of research, have just put a deposit down on one. Ideally it would have been something sensible like an P38 with a diesel, but those on here who know me will realise that was never going to happen.
My 2010 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography will now be arriving on Monday.
Full dealer history, 60,000 miles and loads of toys and stuff which will never get used, though I love stuff like that. It won't be getting used too much at the moment, though I do have a few plans for next year so will hopefully have a few decent runs in it.
Thanks for reading and apologies for boring anyone...
