Both great cars- but I still think a 1M coupe is generally a more interesting machine.

Considering these new M bimmers are all using the same engine isn't the best thing the 340i M estate with a remap and lots of goodies thrown at it?

A latter day Volvo T5R BTCC estate.... now that would be cool.

I'm getting a bit numb to all these M niche models using same powertrain, so this would be refreshing.
I'd say a 335d M estate with a remap would be even better. More torque, more MPH and its already 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, so quite probably faster once its mapped.
Jesus Christ.....article about M2/M4 and you two are discussing the pros and cons of touring cars/diesel estates? rolleyes

Yeah, they doesn't like m4 at all but they like this thing a lot. Now we need to wait m2 vs camaro head 2 head because m4 did get assraped.

Own goal by BMW?

The verdict is an interesting one. I prefer the stance of the M2. I prefer the M3 to the M4 and doesn't the M2 sound a bit better?

Leave the bloody diesels out of this. An M3 Touring, though? scratchchin

Of the 340 or 335D which is quicker say 60-120mph?

At the BTCC at Brands they lined up the M2, M4 and M6. Looking purely at 0-60 times and with blanket 155 vmax limiter, you basically had a choice of size and paid according how much extra space you wanted and the financial steps were significant. Ok it's not quite as simple as that but as a singleton with no kids etc the M2 makes a compelling case and is the aesthetic pick of the bunch to my eye. The proportions, arches and wheels are nothing short of pornographic. Which is actually a disappointing thing to have happen when you've lusted after an M3 basically forever (well, since driving the E36), to find out that an M2 might be better and is more accessible. If the slim chance I'll be in a position to have one actually materialises soon, I'll almost be gutted to not finally be ticking the "M3" box. Damn you, choice.

The next comparison has to be an M2 vs a 1M shirley?

I wasnt sure about the elephant either and thought Mustang.

Not entirely sure they are comparable vehicles though.
I assumed they were talking about a second hand E91 M3.

I'm not rich enough to afford any but I think I'd choose the M2 as I prefer smaller cars and it's a 4-seater which would be enough for me.

I reckon we'll see a few 1M/M2 comparisons, as well as M2 vs RS Focus ( similar release dates ), M2 vs Mustang and M2 vs Boxster. Looking forward to the articles

The seat in the M2 is not lined up with the car? Really? Are all 2 series coupes like that?

I noticed that in the Car Throttle video review of the white one as well

Am I being thick, what is the elephant in the room with a V8 and a cheaper price tag? I'm thinking C63 AMG maybe? Surely that can't be cheaper...?

Wow speedy.

Surely not? An American car handling and going better than an M beemer? It'll more than likely have an awful interior too...

Too much blur between the 1M,M2,M3 & M4 with outliers m135i and the m235i.

M3's and 4's are dropping like stones at the mo

Good second hand buys for some!!

Bit like Golf R's....cheap as chip. Even S3's aren't holding values well

Couldn't agree more - 2 Series with an N52, or better still S54 engine would surely work!

In the absence of that, I would rather go to a Ford dealer for a V8 Mustang than have some sort of variant of turbo'd 6 cylinder positioned mostly by engine mapping! laugh

Even as a massive Porsche fan, with £50k spend I'd take an M2 - plenty quick enough, 4 seats (which you would really need if its your one car), £50k gives you plenty of scope with the options list (which with Porsche only gets you a basic Boxster S or a spec'd up Boxster) and its the closest to a modern day E30 M3.
