I'm awaiting delivery of a M 2 and can't bloody wait !!!previous M cars owned ....... 2x e36 M3 ...... E39 M5...... Z3 M coupe!!
Left BMW for a while. ( 2 911,s and host of Audi S and Rs models)
This little car has given me hope and yes for "some of you" it could be lighter , have less power and natural aspiration Blar Blar Blar !!! But back in the real world of 2016 this has to be the best new small coupe available and BMW have actually listened to what enthusiasts want and down to emission regulations etc etc the turbo is here to stay for now.... So either except it or buy something else!!!!And I personally think BMW haven't done a bad bloody job.
As for buying a M3/4 on a cheaper finance deal ... Sure you can ..... We'll see which one has depreciated like a stone in 12 months!!!!! M2 will have fantastic residuals due to supply and demand.
Oh and I'll tell you if it's Sh#t ..... But I think the majority of us already know the answer to that one smile
What colour you having Ric?

I quite liked this review against the M4 and some of the factoids thrown in. And this vid is the first I've heard about the driver's seat issue. If one of my arms had to reach further to the steering wheel than the other I piss blood. rage

http://youtu.be/wP5z2cJ5aqk

Does the issue still stand on the RHD cars?

Sums it up for me too. Im coming from a history some fairly good drivers cars (E46 CSL, Clio 200, R26.R, 997 RS, Exige S, E92 M3) and this little M2 is definitely exciting me.

Out of interest are you going for manual or DCT?

Embarrassingly I've opted for the M DCT........but before everyone condemns me here's why.
I've never owned a modern auto (C36 AMG can't count) and was going to spec manual when the Sales manager chucked me the keys to a New Alpine white M4 with DCT!!!! 30 mins later after mixed driving conditions I was loving it (Nice car M4). I also spend a fair bit of time in traffic and regularly forget my age at the Gym.....
Think it'll be a nice change and worst case i'll sell it and buy a manual!!!!!

I was walking down the road last week by a T-Junction & an M4 was idling next to me & then pulled away from the junction.

I can only but relay how incredibly ordinary it sounded, not remotely enticing. Just wish it had a V8.

Before anyone talks about the old M3 V8, that had the right engine but was let down by atrocious styling. All IMHO off course, but an M4 V8 would get my money, best engine & good looks - just saying.....

I'm very jealous of RicM5, if I win on the premium bonds mine will be mineral grey and auto smile
I think a white manual with the BMW Performance exhaust would do me smile

You mean 15 years ago when they made the E46 M3? I love it and bought one, but a car with those specifications is simply outclassed in 2016 by stuff like Golf Rs and Renault RS'. Cars are rarely sold on feelings; they're sold on numbers. Even if the a Cayman GT4 and 911R are used to prove otherwise, they're still stonkingly quick whips today so the point of building a car solely for feel and emotion is moot.

We will rarely get high-powered N/A cars again with hydraulic steering and basic single-level driving modes; the market demands more power, more safety, better fuel economy and better acceleration figures every generation, and car companies need to sell cars to build new (and hopefully better) ones. Porsche will build the odd GT or GTS model but if the base cars are turbo then the rest will surely follow within the decade. I appreciate this is all well and understood, but people seem to go on about how it can't be possible when surely it's clear.

I really like the M2, and wish we had such good financing packages here in Germany like the ones to be had in the UK.

Valid point re: 86/BRZ; it is probably the only new car in the last decade to really upset the established notion of needing bulk numbers to be a good performance car. I love the MX-5s but it's the same (good) formula since its inception nearly 30 years ago and such it's nothing really earth-shattering, merely still different from the norm. Is there room for another 86/BRZ-style driver's car? Hopefully!
