RE: Aston Martin launches Vantage GT8
Discussion
This looks no more silly than a GT3 RS. And to bang on about it is to miss the point. These will be/all have been bought by AM enthusiasts who want to drive their car on track, and it will almost certainly not be their only Aston.
I wouldn't buy one, personally. If my numbers come up an order will go in for a V12V with the dog leg manual.
However I'm glad it exists as a confident assertive niche car within the range which links nicely to their racing past and present, just like the GT12.

I wonder what it would look like without the optional Aero Pack and painted all one colour? Much better I would imagine, but I guess most buyers will opt for the full retina burning look.
It will look even more stunning and it will emphasize the width of the car even more (body is in CF and wider than the standard Vantage).I am not "brave" enough to go for a non-Aero version, though. Why? As you guessed correctly, most, if not all the cars, will have the Aero simply because this aligns the car to the original vision Aston Martin had for the GT8, i.e. creating a road-legal version of (or inspired to) the GTE race car (which can be used as a fast track toy, too).
For exactly this reason, I would have expected Aston to include the Aero option as standard with a "delete" choice, if I have to be honest.
Having seen AMs thumping round Silverstone, Le Mans and the Nurburgring, this looks every bit the AM limited run racer for the road. I'll go out on a limb and say this looks more special to me than the LFA recently featured. At this sort of price, you're either buying with your heart, or with investment in mind.
I must admit I would like to see one with gloss black replacing all of the green parts., but blimey you lot are a hyper critical, remember they won't all look like this, every manufacturer will always showcase the lary colour to get your attention, especially with a limited run product. I think Aston are doing a great job at the moment, they are making gorgeous bits of metal that we can all aspire to one day owning.
I see this in the sme light as the Posche Gayman GT4; already sold out by the time you get to read about it, most sold no doubt to customers who can see a nice profit.
I actually know someone who read about the GT4 just prior to its official release, went to a nearby Porsche dealer in Derbyshire only to be told they were all spoken for.
Anyways, I too am not sure about the aesthetics, and if I view it purely as a road car (??) and not an investment, the price of making it (even more) lightweight doesn't stack up.
This of course from a man who's daily is an Octavia 150 tdi estate.......

Having driven a V8 on a few occasions,I must say that the Vantage is jolly nice indeed, although the high transmission tunnel can make it feel like you are trying to change gear whilst in a sleeping bag-The gear change is also a process that requires your attention.
With nice used examples in the £40k bracket, £150 ish seems like a lot of money, but the design has aged very well and there certainly is something that is very desirable with the prospect of having an Aston.
I am from Essex, so I have a cultural tendency to like dayglo, but it doesn't do much for the styling and I fear that it will soon look like my 80's ski suit did in 1994.......

It's just not Aston Martin :/
I could be wrong however I believe the origins of Aston Martin were racing cars for wealthy gentleman, I think David Brown took them down the GT route however to start with they were all about bespoke racing toys for the outrageously rich. If I'm correct then this is definitely Aston Martin!
I'm happy Aston are back racing seriously - what's not to like? - but this is just a clever, marketing-led, short term, sticking plaster for a now ancient car. Well done for selling them all but I can't help feel that the buyers have been 'well done' too.
Still I guess it helps keep the company solvent whilst they develop the badly needed new machinery.

In summary they reduced the weight down to
1,510kg
That's the same more or less as an AMG C43 Estate, give or take 50kg.
That had a big heavy V8 with 16 spark plugs and room for 2 dogs.
Crazy.
The more you read your comment the more you will realise your comparison doesn't make any sense ....1,510kg

Would have been curious to read your comments back in the days when they launched the SLR Mclaren (>1700Kgs, >£300k)...would you agree this is, also, a pointless comparison?
Here, you pay a lot (I don't disagree on that) not for having the fastest car on a track. You pay for a fast track&road package, rarity AND "specialness". Ah, btw, it is also branded Aston-Martin...
If you also aren't a fan of blown-& silent-engines, flappy-padels and active aero..then I am afraid there aren't many alternatives to the GT8, out there, at this price range.

I'd be embarrassed driving that on the road with that aero and colour scheme.
I would love it! So many rain-cloud grey diesel Euroboxes on the road, the Aston is the total opposite! You're on the wrong website mate.
