I was smitten with this little Japanese wonder lurking in my local Tesco's car park recently...

That looks lovely, an early Fairlday Z if my memories of Gran Turismo 4 are correct!
It's not a 'Z'. It's the previous generation 'Datsun Roadster'. I believe this one is a late SPL311 'Datsun Sports 1600'.

They used the 'Fairlady' name in Japan, but the 'Z' moniker was not introduced until the all-new S30-series coupes debuted in late 1969.

I was looking at the obscure performance saloons thread, which was started by another PHer and noted that there were quite few Japanese vehicles in the thread. This made me remember my love for the wacky and wonderful world of JDM.

Here's some of my favourites. Feel free to share yours fellow PHersthumbup

Yeah.

Right.
E60 M5 did 200mph with 500bhp didn't it? why wouldn't a 700bhp one do it?

The Mazda Familia (323) GT-R...
Just had a little read up on this. Definitely has the cool factor for me being a homologation special and super rare.
210bhp. 4wd. Etc etc
I've owned two of these, awesome little cars. Wish I'd kept the nice one, last one I saw for sale was last year for 3k. There are probably less than a dozen in the UK.
I have a GTX version, heavily modded now and used for sprints and hill climbs.
Did you used to go on the 323GTX forum?

Yes it is, but it looks smart considering its age! Surely it's just a cousin to our beloved Kei cars? smile

I saw a Honda Mobilio today, something I'd never heard of before,a rather dull looking mini MPV.

A 53 plate with small JDM type plates.

Google images is flooded with new ones unless you input 2004 in the search.

The yahoo group wasn't much good but the (www.323gtx.co.uk) site was good in its day, a bit quiet these days due to them getting rarer but still a lot of info in the archives.
I'll try post a few pics of mine if I can get the link to work.
I've owned it for 15 years and slowly modded it to compete, it was dyno'd the other week at 382bhp and is entertaining to drive.

It's just a bit too familiar to be novel, I think.

Plus the mirrors, wheels and number plates are awful. Cars may look like that in Japan, but they were supplied new to the UK and didn't look like that
