Saving tax makes it a price issue, doesn't it?

And the 'getting a better car' point. Better than what (aside from a Jaguar XF)?

As someone else said above, £110k buys some pretty special cars but if it's looked at as a company provided transport solution then I can see it makes sense.
Well better than the RR sport it's replacing.

Point is, no one suggested the reason for having one was to save fuel costs.

And mine cost nothing like £110k, that's absolute too spec with everything on it, and the ultimate spec on every car is silly.

When I got the quote, for a reasonably equipped 85, it was about 90k€, so roughly £70k.

Enjoy your cars guys. Spending so much to save so little is just lost on me I'm afraid.
but that is the exact reason you chose the deisel is it not?

Or are you saying you genuinely picked the diesel version because it was better than the Petrol version?

Before I say anything I HAVE NOT driven a Tesla, an EV or anything hybrid apart from an RX400h and RX450h.

I don't see the appeal in Tesla's If I am honest. The cabin is nice, it's practical and its eco-friendly but there's no feedback, like the one that gives the factor of fun.
Imo 0-60 in sub 3 seconds is awesome but there is no feedback to keep it fun. So, the novelty of accelerating faster than a jet would wear off.
Re - the Model 3. Why would anyone want a fat hatchback with a st interior? It's no way comparable to the Model S - and its far more ugly. I don't see the hype.

To me it seems like everyone is praising the Toyota Prius. Fast Cars are for driving and having fun. Not bragging about 0-60 and supercharging. Its not conventional and the world is getting more boring. We need someone to turn up and make what made the Elise, TVR Cerb, MX5 fun and pure. Jinba Ittai.

That'll be the new MX5, the GT86 and the current model Elise then scratchchin

Or the Ariel Atom, bac Mono, Cayman GT4, 911 GT3, Caterham Superlight, Radical SR3, Focus RS, Fiesta ST or Lotus Exige

All brilliant and in no way shape or form an alternative to a Tesla

Yes, its a luxo-barge and its wafty, but c'mon! It sounds mind-numbingly boring. I wouldn't touch a Roadster with a barge pole.

Yes. Good shout. But for a luxo-barge there are more interesting options.
Alpina 7 series.
Audi A8.
Toyota Crown V12.
Ford Vignale.

So how did you arrive at this opinion?

There is plenty of feedback, the steering is good and you can feel what the car is doing underneath you.
I enjoyed driving it a lot, I would buy one because it is a great car not just because it has low fuel costs.

So you've never driven one but you know there is no feedback and the novelty of acceleration wears off.

As to the model 3, its not a hatchback, and the interior looks great to me. The only thing I didn't like was the steering wheel which Elon Musk has already said is not the production wheel, and all will become clear in the second part of the reveal.

Cars are fun for petrolheads, not 90% of the population. Elon Musk is making cars for normal AtoB drivers. The speed/acceleration is just a bonus of an EV drivetrain. You can do that and still maintain the cars efficiency. As ICE cars become more powerful they get more complicated and inefficient. EV's don't.

There's no noise - so not very interesting imo.

Not sure what the new xf offers, swapped my xfr for a p85d. There is no contest. P85d runs circles around the xfr, in all departments.

Can't think of anything the xfr did better. I had a custom exhaust on it, sounded phenomenal. Rather have a Cayman gt4 tho.
There's one thing that the Jag does that the Tesla will never match:
Noise.
Elon Musk is not a petrolhead. Cars should be produced by petrolheads. See AMG as an example.

Then the answer is a hybrid. C63 Hybrid. An Elon Musk drivetrain with a stonking great N/A 6.2 V8.

I had a Maserati GranTurismo S which IMO is one of the best sounding cars ever made so I appreciate the joy of a great sounding car, the Tesla was very quiet but I still enjoyed driving it despite the lack of noise.

But that logic assumes you can only ever own one car.

An AMG won't sound like a TVR, or a Ferrari, etc.

A progressive way of looking at it is that you have clothes, or dress watches, that you keep for special occasions. Perhaps they would even look out of place in everyday life. Doesn't render them useless though, it just means when you DO wear them it feels that bit more special...

Tesla (EV) for trollies, V8 burbler for jollies.

What's the top speed on the Tesla?
I'm still not that convinced.
I think hybrids are the answer- long range with a combustion engine, can be autonomous, nice noise (depends on the engine), lower base price, longer life.
Tesla, branch out to hybrids and I will like your cars. I will never buy an electric car apart from a Renault ZOE

He spent some of his early money on a McLaren F1 which he used daily. He has recently purchased the James Bond Lotus Submarine.
